Not sure if this is true but Sam Caplan of FiveOuncesofpain.com and reporting that on the TaggRadio.com show it was reported that Shogun will be facing Forrest Griffin at UFC 76. I could totally see this as Liddell/Jardine isn't ME quality but Shogun/Griffin co-main eventing makes for since, IMO. Guess we will have to wait and see.

Report: Shogun’s new opponent is Forrest « Five Ounces of Pain!

Edit: I have asked a mod to merge the threads.

Damn, I sort of wanted to see Machida vs Shogun, but Forrest vs Shogun makes sense and will end up being fun. This gives the fans a chance to see Shogun beat a name that they know and dig.

So yeah, I wanted to see Lyoto, but Forrest isn't a bad replacement.

Yeah, not a technical showcase anymore, but a much better money fight. People who have no idea who Shogun is -- and many of them don't, like it or not -- will pay more attention to his debut now. And if Forrest can pull off some kind of miracle, then his stock goes through the roof.

Of course, I suppose that would make Houston Alexander the No. 1 contender...

I do believe Forrest has been handed a death notice.

Unless the curse of '07 rears it's ugly head once more.

I wouldve loved to see that fight against machida, but this is the perfect fight for Shogun. He's going to destroy your popular fighter to shreds and make a name for himself in the States. Then he's going to take the title and keep it unless his arm gets dislocated..

Here's an old interview with Forrest just after he lost Jardine. And I quote:

"Ultimate-Fighter.ca: This is another question from our forum administrator known as $m0k3. Is there anyone from Pride you would like to cross over and fight?

Forrest Griffin: Yeah man I wouldn’t mind fighting, like ah I think Ninja or someone like that would be a good fight.

Ultimate-Fighter.ca: What about Shogun Rua?

Forrest Griffin: Yeah that would be a good fight too. You know, I think Shogun is a little better. Might be a little out of my league right now."
