Tim Kennedy won't fight unless it's 'something special', rips PED usage in MMA

UFC middleweight Tim Kennedy won't go as far as saying he's retired, but he said it it's going to take something special to get him back in the octagon.

UFC middleweight Tim Kennedy has been around for a long time, and he has seen a lot of things. The Army special forces officer was a guest on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani recently and discussed his displeasure with the current state of the sport, to the the point that he's not interested in competing again unless it's 'something special':

"Has to be something special. Fedor [Emelianenko] comes out of retirement and I fight him at a catchweight of 100 kilos. I'd be down for that."

"I have a conflict. My love for the sport isn't going away. I'm just disappointed in the sport. I don't know how to explain these mixed emotions where I'm like: every dude in my weight class is testing positive, everybody is cheating, judging still sucks, reffing still sucks."

Kennedy has long railed against PED usage in MMA, and with the slew of recent positive tests, it's become readily apparent that the sport has some major issues in that regard:

"There's a crazy problem. The inevitable is gonna happen and where somebody is going to get seriously hurt and the person that caused that is gonna test positive and then the sport is ... "

"I'm talking about like something horrible, maybe even something gone wrong where a bad drug is used and something happens to the athlete before the fight and now his kidneys are failing and his liver is failing," Kennedy said. "Guess what? That's what happens when you use steroids. So yeah, it's going to get worse before it gets better."

Kennedy (18-5, 3-1 UFC), who is coming off a disputed loss to Yoel Romero at UFC 178, is currently ranked at number eight in the UFC's middleweight division.

have you even read the article?

This isnt about him, sure it relates to his choices, bu its more about how he feels his sport is going in the wrong direction and he actually makes a damn good point.

What happens to this, the worlds most "barbaric" sport, when someone gets serioulsy hurt and the "offender" has taken drugs prior to the fight?

How will the law react and im not talking about an athletic comission handing out laughable punishments, but the criminal law.

the sport is already based on going to the limit and tehn some, so a lot of people dislike it and the amount of ammunition theyŽd be handed, if such a scenarios would occur would likely cause some serious damage to the sport and the ufc.

I cant speak for others, but if this is the best roided mmaŽer vs the best roided mmaŽer, then im not going to bother with the sport at ufc level.

IŽve always had the stance, you dont bring a knive to a fist fight, you dont bring a gun to a knife figt and you dont bring your friends when its one on one.

fighting should be pure, clean and me at my best vs you at your best. Nothing more and nothing less. There is something beautifull and andmiring about having the audacity, courage and ability to do it, but all that goes down the drain, when peds dome into the picture.

Fx i think sonnen is a funny dude, i actually liked how he provoked anderson, it made me laugh a lot as it was so unpolitical correct, but his career in regards to accomplishments?

who gives a flying ****?

I couldnt care less, his acomplishments is non existent in my world. He is a fighting loser. The same goes for silva, "the best ever", his use and abuse has taken everything away from his career. He is no better then sonnen. The easy going dude, who was supposed to have all the natural talent n the world, the guy who laid down the law and still he juiced..

I certainly have something that feels like disillusion, perhaps a bit too strong of a word as the sport doesnt mean that much, but the amount of guys who are caught - with a piss poor testing policy - really makes me wonder what the hell is going on.

With that said, kennedy actually has the physique of someone who roided himself. See, im already gettting suspicios and thinking about and thats a slippery slope.

a guy like bisping in his prime, has he actually fought a fighter and lost, without peds in the picture and i consider trt a ped too.

henderson trt?
belfort disgusting cheater
wanderlei digusting cheater
sonnen disgusting cheater

Bisping has earned enough money, but only because he is british. An american would never had got the same attetion, so heŽd loose out on money, recognition and reaching his or hers career goals, just because the other prick wants to cheat.

they are stealing, stealing prize money, career opportunities and so on. This has have consequences far beyond the octagon.

2 years minimum if you are caught, 4 years the second time and lance armstronged if you are dirty a third time
