Claudia Gadelha might be the latest, greatest, Nova Uniao steroid abuser. There's a pattern where Jose Aldo, Thales Leites, Renan Barao and Claudia Gadelha are all known for having unusual raw power and explosiveness with poor cardio.

It is possible that years of steroid abuse have damaged their bodies to a point where their cardio is shot. If that is true, I hope people will learn from their example and acknolwedge that PED's can diminish performance and long term career longevity.

Look for Gadelha to take extra recovery time on low blows, eye pokes and any other excuse she can find to gain extra rest in a round. Also look for Gadelha's mouth to be wide open at the end of the 1st round and for her to tire quickly thanks to all those steroids she's injected over her career if she doesn't get an early finish.

Thales Leites has poor cardio? Seemed pretty good against Bisping... not to Bispings level, but who is?

You could jump to all these unfounded conclusions that they are all on steroids or there bodies are damage from years of abuse,

Or you can look at facts... and the facts are, they all cut a shit load of weight. Everyone of them is huge for their weightclass.

Well, I can see why activity on this forum is waning.

It probably has a lot to do with the fact that basic competence on topics like PED's and cardio is falling through the floor.

Nick Diaz is probably the best cardio athlete in the UFC. There's a reason why Nick Diaz and triathalon/marathon runners have the complete opposite physique of Lance Armstrong's legs. Lance Armstrong's legs are what someone competent in strength and conditioning would expect a sprinter's legs to look like moreso than a marathon runner, triathalon participant or someone active in cardio intensive training.

Unfortunately it would seem the majority of posters on this site are too uneducated to understand these basic principles.

Maybe its time for me to look for a different forum that has smarter & more knowledgeable people. Any suggestions?

Lance Armstrong had a resting heart rate of 32 bpm in his prime. Cycling's definitely not cardio intensive.

Its not that complicated.

Question - is american football / the NFL a cardio intensive sport? Most would probably say the NFL isn't cardio intensive. They do a play. Then they rest. They have enough breaks and time outs to recover that it isn't as cardio intensive as a marathon, triathalon or event where a person's cardio would be seriously tested.

The tour de france is the same as the NFL/american football. Riders exert themselves in spurts of activity. They peddle hard for a certain amount of time. Then they rest, let the bike roll and take time to recover.

Its much easier to ride a bike at a fast pace 20 to 40 miles than it is to run 6 to 12 miles at a fast pace. The bike continues moving even if you stop peddling. This makes it easy to take the time you need to recover if you get tired.

If Lance Armstrong wasn't able to rest frequently in the tour de france he wouldn't be able to get away with having the type of heavily muscled legs sprinters, short distance athletes and power lifters have.

There is a difference between being ripped due to having a low body fat percentage and having high density muscle stacked on top of high density muscle. A lot of MMA fighters can be ripped and have good cardio due to having low body fat percentage. Lance Armstrong's physique is different from those types of MMA fighters. Its not low body fat its just a ton of high density muscle built on top of high density muscle to achieve some balance between horsepower and cardio, but its shifted way more in favor of horsepower than pure cardio of the type athletes like marathon and triathalon runners could get away with.

Anyways the only reason I brought up nova uniao and andre pederneiras is because I see people pointing the finger at RDA. If people want to point the finger at someone abusing PED's, I thought maybe I could try to point them in the right direction?

Its unfair to judge RDA's cardio next to Anthony Pettis. Pettis might have made some mistakes with his training that went unchecked in the UFC embedded and countdown shows.

I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone bring up the topic, there might have been some extremely basic and fundamental mistakes both Pettis brothers made with their training.
