Diego Sanchez: St. Pierre a ‘big part’ of the reason for leaving Team Jackson (Audio)

ufcmania.com

Quote:
Throughout this month, we’ve been following the amicable split between Diego Sanchez and his long-time trainer, Greg Jackson. In fact, the “Nightmare” is now working with Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialist Saulo Ribeiro and his team at University of Jiu Jitsu (UNIJJ) in San Diego, Calif.
While all this was happening, former welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre announced that he decided to become a full-time member of Team Jackson — he had been training here and there with the camp for months prior.
So did the presence of “Rush” force the move of Sanchez? According to a recent “Mr. Sunshine” Steve Cofield interview with the New Mexico native, it did.
Sanchez explains in the audio snip that he felt Jackson had lost faith in him when he made the decision to help out the Canadian. In addition, he mentions that eventually him and St. Pierre will eventually cross paths and that “building a brotherhood” just didn’t make sense if that was going to happen.
There’s a lot more to the interview (he confirms his engagement to UFC Ring Girl Ali Sonoma) … but we just want to update this specific story with that caveat. It is certainly more than just “wanting to be closer to his family” like we were initially led to believe.
As soon as GSP was announced as part of the camp I assumed this was the reason for him leaving.

If I were Greg Jackson I wouldn't be too worried about it because I would take GSP over Diego anyday of the week.

I agree as well ... sanchez has nothing over the great GSP ...who has proven himself with a series of very tough opponents along the way ..he has so much more to offer at this point IMO.

Cry baby? Quitter? Whatever. People love GSP on this forum and by in large criticize Diego. GSP gets demolished in his first title defense in what I consider the biggest upset in MMA history and Diego put on a shitty fight and lost to Kos. I don't blame Diego. I don't like this buddy-buddy bullshit that some fighters start: Rashad/Jardine Wandy/Shogun. F*uck that.

WAR DIEGO!

I don't really blame him to be honest. It'd feel awkward training with a future opponent. Maybe he can work on other aspects besides grappling, too.

It is a very good thing Diego left Jackson's Camp. 3 of the best WW's are all in one camp (Swick, Kos, and Fitch). So having another set of teammates wouldn't be good. Also why is everyone talking about Jackson's camp like it's the greatest thing ever. His fighters seem to come into fight unprepared lately and his gym hasn't won a fight in forever. Jardine (loss), Diego (loss), Evans (draw), Marquandt (loss), Villasenor (loss) the best win they have lately is Lenorad Garcia winning a fight on the TUF Finale.
