I think Shawn Jordan used to press 600 lbs.

Looks like Jon Jones could be doing those weights in sets although I can't read the text for the deadlift describing whether its in sets or single lifts. A set of 545 deadlifts would be pretty awesome being that MMA fighters train for a balance between raw power and cardio and have to choose between one or the other with either being mutually exclusive.

I deadlift every week, have been doing it for years and have trained with Olympians to learn how to properly. It was dangerous and foolish, his form is beyond terrible. He is injuring himself with the technique, the extent is debatable but doing it the way he is doing guarantees injuries because misaligned joints plus max load is the recipe for joint problems. I rep 300 and never push to max, did it once and never will again because of how bad it is for you.

The back should never round, it should be a clean smooth motion, lift with the legs first, don't lock the knees, don't over extend at the ending and Jones did every single thing wrong.

Here is Jones' 585 Sumo for anyone interested.

His frame is definitely suited better for sumo. He doesn't really look like he's put on a massive amount of muscle mass as some have comment. I'm sure he's working hard, but he definitely doesn't appear like he's put on 20lbs or anything like that.

You say lift with the legs first . Well he doesn't have much in that aspect :) Which is why I agree it is good stuff from a tall skinny legged fighter. I feel like who I want to see against him is a 205 lb version of a Jose Aldo. Some ridonculous leg kicker with amazing skills. There might be one brewing out there at this time.

I'm not a fan of maxing out on deads either, especially for athletes. Unless your athletic event is actual weight lifting, the risks don't seem worth it. You can definitely pull it off safely, but I'd at least use a belt for max singles. I don't use a belt, but I deadlift in the 5 rep range, which isn't that bad. That being said, 545 is impressive for a tall guy. He's 6'4? That's pretty good.

I know comparing KO shots (MMA math) is a bit futile.... but anyone who can survive Rumble's right hand... has got a helluva chin.

Jones has already beat DC in a compromised condition (as Jones states) so it will be interesting to see what happens during the return.

It's hard to image Jones becoming more dominate...but if what he's saying is true, that very well could be what happens.
