As far as the rules go I think the difference is Gabe could see IE he had no damage to his vision and that’s different than a poke to the eye where a fighter cant see due to eye damage and at that point the ref must stop the fight.
Catch 22, if you stop the fight for a non injury people will flake, let it go as is and your responsible for any damage to the fighter because he did tell you he cant see. Id say they had no choice but to wipe the eye and move forward IMO.

Gonzaga should've calmly sat down on his knees like Van Damme does when he gets the salt in his eyes in the final match of Bloodsport and think back to his blind training where he was rapidly catching fish out of the pond and making tea with the blind fold on......Randy would've been toast

What illegal headbutt? Their heads collided on a slam. It was accidental. There is no way you can intend for those things to happen. That was incidental and in no way illegal.

This discussion would've been very different if Gabe would've gathered himself during his requested "Time out" and once the action resumed he knocked Randy out. Then people would be calling for Herb's head like they usually do

Maybe gonzaga was dizzy because of the slam which broke his nose. I mean not because of the blood but because of the slam which made him dizzy.

I think that Herb did his job in that situation. It was obvious that Gabe didn't understand what he was asking when he asked it. Herb was trying to get him to understand that might be giving up the fight. I also think that the Dr was correct in coming in to look at the cut while there was a break in the action and to look at the cut, you have to clean it. So I have no problems with the way things played out.

Even though Gabe was asking for something that is not allowed, everyone did what needed to be done for the fight to continue.

Hell, Herb even made sure that Gabe wanted to continue before the Dr. came in and cleaned the cut to look at it.

This was one of those weird situations that had to be handled on the fly and things worked out well in the end.

And for the people that keep saying that it was an illegal blow, seriously stop. All you are doing is making it look like you are more concerned about whinning then being a fan of the sport. Carrying on about it only makes you lose creditablity for future intelligent MMA conversations.
