Physics help Barnett alot in his fights. Smaller grapplers and strikers that can't grappler or avoid being taken down are always going to have difficulty with Barnett. Look how Gonzaga took Mirko down and dominated, something Barnett couldn't do. I'm not shitting on Barnett but to say the fight would play out the same is the last one is not fair to Couture. Barnett won a split over Big Nog, much thanks to the late kneebar but then lost the rematch. Watch Randy throw Ricco around in the first two rounds. And Rodriguez was a top ten hw when he was in shape and clean.

Why does everyone feel Randy is a bluff win he's winning but love the guy when he's losing? Face facts, Randy's run now is nothing short of amazing at his age.
I think Randy is a beast and stands a good chance at winning against Barnett I just find it ridiclous that almost everyone in this thread is talking about Barnett like he isn't a great fighter when He has had a stronger HW career than Randy. One thing though is just because Randy is 44 doesn't mean he gets special treatment when ranking the top fighters. That doesn't make any sense his run is amazing but Barnett makes a good point that If lets say he did what Randy did in beating Sylvia and Gonzaga. No one would be proclaiming him the greatest ever and unbeatable like Dana White did. What Barnett said really isn't that crazy and He has had an impressive enough career (unlike Lesnar talking shit about Sylvia) That I think people can disagree with him but the outrage and insults toward what he said aren't valid.

Couture has definitely gotten better, which is just mindblowing once you think about it. Some people start to suck when they get older, not Couture. Dude is amazing.
I defiantly would say Ricco was top Competition In fact I think if he would eat a damn salad he would still be a top fighter. O and Terry Nogueira beat Ricco no doubt in my mind.

Oh, gotcha. Meh, I actually thought Nog won based off attempting shit off his back. It's been a while since I've seen the fight, though. Didn't really light my fire or anything, and one of Nogueira's worst fights in Pride. Still, it can be argued for either guy. Like Fedor has the Schilt fight, Nogueira has the Ricco fight. In terms of entertainment, not performance.

Barnett makes a good argument for himself and I think it's a half decent ploy to get himself resigned. Lets not forget Cro Cop was the original plan. Not Gonzaga. As far as hw careers I make a case for Couture having a better one. Maybe not on records.
-Won UFC 13 in his first two mma fights. Competition wasn't the best, but that's still a half decent notch in your belt.
-Beat Belfort in his thrid fight, when everybody didn't give him a snowballs chance in hell.
-Controlled Mo Smith, something Coleman couldn't do. A man considered the best wrestler in mma at the time.
-Out wrestled Kevin Randleman and finished him to recapture the title.
-Had fight of the year with Pedro Rizzo and then finished him in the rematch.
-Completely dominates Tim Sylvia after a year absence.
-Then finishes upstart Gonzaga. Who destroyed Mirko.

I'm sorry dude I just hugging Couture's nuts big time since 74. I mean he came out to Back in Black and dished out suplexes.

I agree Minotauro won the fight with how active his guard was. Not arguing there, just you CAN make a case for Ricco.

Far Point on Randy's Career but Barnett has wins over

Aleksander Emmelianko
Mark Hunt
Dan Severn
Nakamura
Couture himself
and Rodrigo Nogueira. I personally think Barnett is one of the most underrated fighters in MMA and I really like Couture it just seems like if anyone says anything the slightest bit negitive about him they become Dumbasses.

Barnett is being a hypocrite, no doubt about it, because his claim to the belt isn't any more legitimate than anyone who won it after he was stripped. He cheated, plain and simple.
But in terms of what he brings to a fight, he's right up there with the very best. It's too bad Pride's crack-smoking bookers burned off Barnett vs. Nog II before Josh had his shot at Fedor. Oh well. The fact remains that Barnett is one of the best heavyweights in the world and deserves to be treated as such by UFC. If Stephan Bonnar can be forgiven, then Barnett can.
