Josh Barnett wants Couture

From his myspace:

Let's get straight to it and say that Randy did a phenomenal job at UFC 74 in defending his title. As a fan and a fellow Washingtonian I was happy to see him win. But as for the title itself -- it still sits in my house. No one in UFC ever beat me for it, and as far as I am concerned, no one in the UFC can be the heavyweight champion until they take that belt off of me in the cage.

At the post fight press conference, Dana White said "there isn't anyone in the world that can beat this guy" in reference to Randy. All this because Randy beat a guy that had less than ten fights and only one noteworthy win? That's not even a world championship level fight, let alone reason to proclaim the winner as "unbeatable". This comment was made even more ridiculous by the fact that I was standing right there, living proof that Randy Couture is definitely beatable.

"Unbeatable", Dana says. If he actually believes that, I'm more than willing to step into the cage and prove him wrong. It wouldn't even have to be for the belt. I already got the real belt. They can keep their pile of brass they purport as the UFC Heavyweight Title and put it on their next paper champ."

Lets remember Barnett was stripped of the title for a drug test result, so I can't call him the undefeated champion. I like Barnett, but calling Randy a paper champion is bogus.

edit: link on his site as well Josh Barnett.tv - UFC Heavyweight title? Not in my eyes.

I agree with you, but technically speaking no one ever did beat him for the belt. I think this would be a hugfest, probably a very slow fight, but I think Randy would have a great shot. Barnett is slow like Sylvia is on the feet and that could end up hurting him in positioning.

But we all know Barnett is just trying to get a title shot. I don't, however, think Dana wants him back in the UFC.

Wow, I just lost a lot of respect for Josh Barnett. How can you come out and criticize a guy and call him a paper champ when you could only get it by cheating? What a douchebag.

Let him come over and earn his title shot. I would be pissed off if he came over and got an immediate title shot even though he's not in even in the top three in the world.

I'm not really sure how you don't have him as a top three fighter. He has wins over both Couture and Big Nog and has yet to fight Fedor.

I would love to see Barnett back in the UFC and I think he's saying the right things to get him there.

If he reminds enough people that he took the belt from Couture once never really lost it. People will want to see the rematch.

Can't forget his roids!

But seriously, Nog beat him right after he beat Nog, he doesn't deserve a title shot simply because he cheated against Randy and last time he fought Nog he lost which puts Nog ahead of him, and hes lost to Cro Cop three times..

What I'm getting at is, why should he get a title shot before either of these guys?

That's like rewarding him for cheating.

With the UFC trying to keep it's public profile clean from drugs, it's doubtful they'll be resign him anytime soon

I like Barnett but I think he should have to win one, if not two fights before getting a title shot. Nog or CC(if he beats kongo) should get title shot before barnett.

I guess you have a point. He's right up there with the best of them. I was just pissed of at that cocky, I have to cheat to win and then call out the guys who do it naturally, shit talk.

I understand what you are saying, and I think that part of it might be that you are such a Couture fan. I love the guy myself and if someone was talking crap about Franklin, I'd get upset about it like you did this.

But you also have to look at the fact that it was five and a half years ago that he failed that drug test. People change a lot in that time and Barnett has grown a lot as a fighter since then.
