Why did Murilo Bustamante leave the organization?

You forget that this isn't just some brutal sport where everyones out to kill each other. Its much more like a game of physical chess.-looney liam

Bustamante was stripped of his title after signing with PRIDE FC in October, '02. He then lost his next three fights in the PRIDE middleweight division (200 pounds).

He has yet to beat a top ten fighter since leaving the UFC.

The moral of the story: If you've got a title, don't be a d*ck and walk out on it. Make sure the hardware is going with you.

Crazy how many people walked away from the title. I guess that is why Dana is so insistent on having a long term contract with contenders for the title. Looks bad if your champs keep leaving to go to other organizations.

# UFC 35, January 11, 2002 Murilo Bustamante takes the title from Dave Menne

Nobody remembers Dave Menne as champion, I mean Murilo just took it. Bar none the most unrecognized title holder ever.

Yeah PRIDE'S MW division tore him up. But I look at it like this......He knew he was the champ of the UFC and obviously the competition was harder in PRIDE so why not challenge yourself?

Yeah, it's funny that Dave Menne is more well known for getting brutally KO'd by Baroni than anything else.
