Gonzaga was extremely nervous
No, this is not a thread trying to make excuses for Gonzaga's loss to Couture. Couture won because of pure skill, intelligence, and dedication. My BJJ instructor (Gonzaga's original instructor in Brazil) went to be with Napao in Vegas before the fight. According to him, Gonzaga was acting very nervous before his fight, even though he seemed to be calm during the entrance and he should have been brimming with confidence after the Cro Cop knockout. Hopefully in the future Gonzaga can get over this for other title shots.

I still think that if the broken nose hadn't happened so early in the fight, it could have gone a completely different direction. I hope that Gonzaga gets a rematch, because people are jumping his bandwagon too quickly and he really is a talented HW.
PS: Randy's good but he's no Fedor.

Greatest fighter of all time??? Its not good to smoke crack ya know? Hey I love Randy too and he is amazing no matter what his age. But 16-8 isnt that great, I know most of his losses are in title fights and he hasnt fought any cans. But still he is a HOFer and is great but not the greatest

any middle aged man that can beet tim sylvia and then gabriel gonzaga, and win titles in 2 weight classes more than once is a hero in my books. 16-8 isnt the best record, but look at who he has fought. none of them have been even close to easy fights, but yet many of them he made look easy.
I may have been going overboard by saying greatest of all time, but i gotta take my hat off to him and i think everyone can agree if hes not the greatest these days hes in the top 2

Back on topic...
Yea he seemed really nervous. After he broke his noise I could tell he was desperately trying not to lose his nerve (telling herb dean that he could not see).
I think Gabe will have a much better showing in his next fight. Gabe vs AA anyone?

Gabe vs AA is actually a really good idea imo. Its sort of a win/win for the UFC. AA wins, and they revive a somewhat dormant name and put him in the title picutre. GG wins, and they can begin hyping him up again on the road for a possible HW title fight. It would be the pretty standard striker vs grappler fight, but with AAs decent ground skills and Gonzagas impressive striking and power it could prove to be very entertaining.

You could tell he was nervous in his walk to the ring.

Ya I definitly thought Gabe appeared to lose his nerve around the middle of the second round. When he was telling Herb Dean he couldn't see, his expression looked pretty desperate... altho I'd be desperate too if I couldn't see and was put in a ring with Randy Couture.
