UFC Fans Dont Know Fedor

Quote:
The hard core fans who know who Fedor is are a minority. Believe me when I tell you that. My (UFC) fans don't know who he is. I'd have to build him up. You can't just say 'Fedor's here,' and open the doors and expect people to come in. It doesn't work that way.
I even had to build up Cro Cop. It's taking a while for us to do that. After we introduce him to our fans, then you can do that kind of a thing.
This is a quote from Dana White taken from Irish Whip. Sorry if already posted but I didnt see a thread about it. But what are everyone's thoughts?

I actually agree that to hardcore fans like us it would be the biggest thing that could possibly happen at this point to sign Fedor. But to MOST fans of the UFC, they would probably be more excited by a Forrest Griffin fight than a Fedor fight.

He's right, casual fans don't know who the hell he is, nor do they really care. Fedor is quite awesome, but to the casual fan, he's just a pudgy guy who looks like a baker. Fans probably don't care that he beat Cro Cop, since Gonzaga destroyed the guy, and Randy ended up destroying Gonzaga. I, personally, think that anyone basing Fedor's skill level on that, is an idiot, but the casual fans see it as a guy who fought somewhere else, has no charisma, and just isn't worth their time. They didn't care when Wanderlei entered the Octagon, they didn't care when Nogueira entered, and they wouldn't care if Fedor enters.

Fedor vs Randy would sell because of Randy. To hardcore's, Fedor is the man. To casual fans, Fedor is pretty much irrelevant.

thats the reason why I think they should start him off on other opponites instead of randy, get the fans behind him show them his skills and then have the fight

when i was younger i watched the first couple UFC`s, my intrest wained and in the last 3 years i got back into martial arts and watching UFC again.

that said until i started to dig for other organizations, started talking on boards, sherdog etc etc i had no idea who Fedor was, and now that ive seen plenty of his fights i say F-uck Fedor.

Honestly if the guy wont take huge money to fight and thats what he does then screw him, hes gonna wither away the best years of his carrier for what? so he can fight a few fights in russia? sounds freakin gay to me, actually that sounds like a cop out.

Fedor will drop in the ranks as the best fighter in the HW division in MMA and if he doesnt join UFC he`ll become a thing of the past, unfortunate but thats reality and Dana knows this, hes smarter then he looks.

i hate this response, as it is baseless, imo. being ranked number 1 well into his twighlight years might not be his number one goal in life. sounds like it might be YOUR goal for him. of ocurse it'd be great to always be ranked #1, but it doesn't necessarily mean it's HIS continous goal. also, i think it is quite clear that it is not about the money. if other fighters, such as gonzaga are allowed to compete outside the UFC, then why wouldn't the UFC let the #1 HW, who has proven himself over & over & over again, have this reasonable demand?!? it makes no sense.

good for fedor for sticking to what he wants.

it just sucks that the UFC has to cater to fickle & uneducated(about the sport) fans.

Fedor does what Fedor wants, true. He probably doesn't care about street cred since he wipes his ass with $100 bills. They can pay him a large sum, they can have him bring in his team, they can give him a kitten, whatever, I want to see the guy fight good fighters. I, as a fan, want to see the best fight the best. Will it happen? Who the hell knows, but I want to see it.

That being said, Fedor wants his money, and rightfully so.

Who should he fight first to hype him up with the casual fans? I'd say Arlovski or Sylvia.

i completely agree. he just needs the hype machine behind him, provided by the ufc, to make it happen. it's not hard to tell sheep fans what they should think. that's obvious.
