A thought on the GG/Randy fight

What do you guys think GG's camp was talking about when they said that they saw Couture had a weakness and they would take advantage of it.

My best guess is that Randy wasn't too good at fighting big guys such as Ricco rodrigues, ect. That is why GG gained 10 pounds for the fight. I guess it kind of backfired because he seemed slower and sloppier because of the weight gain.

What dou you guys thinkabout this?

I really didn't think about this. I don't think it was his lack of defense against bigger guys though because this has been known for a while and you wouldnt pick that up after seeing him dismantle someone 6'8".

Maintain distanceand land kicks. Thats what I think.

My gameplan woulda been to have him try and take down Randy(as crazy as that sounds, gabe still outweighed Couture by like 25 pounds and coulda set it up) and sub him.

Yeah, I agree with that game plan. Going into that fight though, they may of just underestimated how good of a striker he's become but GG is still on the ground. And like you said, he outweighs him by a good amount.

I don't think they would have wanted to make Gabe any bigger, he has always been really big and strong. I think what they are referring to was either maintain stand up range and use those lethal kicks, or take him down and use his BJJ to sub him.

Actually after I think about it I think GG and his camp wanted to take Couture down. I think this because GG's camp was hyping up that GG want to be on his back, ex. when they said that they would tell the ref to start the fight with Couture on top on the countdown, I think they wanted to make Couture to think that GG wanted to be on his back, and then GG takes Randy down and submits him. When they said they saw a weakness they probably thought Randy isn't too good off his back.

Except GG didn't make a single takedown attempt?

It didn't seem like he really had a shot at it before the nose break and from then on, he went all defensive since he was stuck in a clinch.

They were saying he had tendecies and my best guess would be that he likes to clinch a lot and sweep a lot and that is what he did in his fight with Gonzaga. I don't know if that is what they were talking about but that is the only thing I can come up with.
