Well, that was a quick exit after a promising start. As long as Gunny is still there Conor should be ok.

SBG Ireland welterweight Cathal Pendred took to Twitter on Wednesday to call it quits on his professional mixed martial arts fighting career. The 28-year-old cited a lack of passion for competition as his motivating reason.

Pendred retires from MMA with a record of 17-4-1, although he dropped his last two straight. Most recently, he was stopped at 4:37 in the first round by Tom Breese in October at UFC Fight Night 76.

Pendred rose to prominence on the local fight circuit in Europe before going undefeated in the highly-respected Cage Warriors Fighting Championship promotion, going 5-0-1.

The Irish fighter eventually became a cast member on the ninteenth season of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) where he made it to the tournament's semifinals losing to recent UFC castoff Eddie Gordon. He was a part of B.J. Penn's team.

Pendred ultimately went 4-2 inside the Octagon and holds wins over UFC veterans Che Mills, Sean Spencer, Nico Musoke, David Bielkheden and Gasan Umalatov.

He is the teammate of other UFC fighters Conor McGregor, Paddy Holohan and Aisling Daly.

Congratulations to Pendred for having the balls to make this decision. He took a bad beating in his last fight and while he's still young this is a good move for his health.

He gave it good shot and just didn't have the athleticism

He could still come out of retirement and fight CM Punk.

Too bad Steve Irwin the crocodile hunter passed away, CM Punk vs Steve Irwin. That might've been a good match up.

I don't know how its possible for Pendred to be as bad as he is. Is the "Pen" prefix in a name a sign of royalty in europe? You have King Arthur who is descended from Uther Pendragon. Other cultures have something similar where certain prefixes in their names denote nobility factions. Cathal could be descended from royalty. He trains with some of the best. How to explain his mediocre performances.

This place has turned into a real kick them when they are down forum the last few weeks. Can't understand the mentality rejoicing at other peoples misfortune or bad times in their life, it low quality.

Fuk off with that shit... Cathal Pendred has had one of the most fortunate MMA careers of all time, Cathal Pendred is low quality and there is nothing wrong in saying so.

seriously, I used to get offended and have my feelings hurt around here on a daily basis.

Then, I joined a forum for people who love boxer dogs and I saw what mean and nasty really looks like. :jaw: It's an internet phenomenon. Most people just don't think they need manners or compassion or accountability when protected by a keyboard.
I don't think I've ever heard anyone say "die in a fire" to someone else in real life.:(

I think forums need to be looked at the same way real life conversation s with friends are looked at. I wouldn't censor myself myself if a friend td me about this guy retiring. I would be like "who? No big loss..." just like I would here. When people write mean things directed at fighters they know the fighter will never read their comment. That's why I don't understand the notion that posters here are hiding behind keyboards. The message is not directed to the fighter nor will it been seen by the fighter. It's the same as a casual conversation with friends.

 I got my first rep from sideways too. It might have been "die in a fire" or something equally intelligent I can't remember now. he's the only member that I've ever put on ignore and that's where he will always stay. Not that the ignore function does any good. assholes always get quoted.

Cathal was okay. He just was incredibly awkward and had no chin. His fights may have been ridiculously close but he was hardly being handed robberies to the degree Diego was.

I was instantly a fan because maybe my favourite card of all time was the first UFC Dublin card. Had a cracking day leading up to it and the tone was set perfectly with his fight with Mike King.

I feel for Don as well. :( It's a tough time dealing with the loss of super star celebrity Ronda and now this. Who knew...

On another note I seriously wished I did my research on Holly cuz I would have bet the farm on her. +1800 odds won't be coming around again for awhile. Only GSP, Fedor, and Anderson were close to that.

Stinks of UFC elitism.

I watched Cohl for a good few years before his UFC career began and he was always known as a winner, he beat alot of the top regional guys in the UK and Ireland, fighters much "better" than himself with grit and determination. I dont buy that he has no chin either as I've seen him eat big shots and still win in the past. Good luck Cohl, you did alot for MMA in Ireland and even the UK.
