Whats next for GSP??
Most around here would agree that GSP is the #1 WW in the world. He's beaten all the top guys at his wieght and he's proved that he is championship material. After his surprising loss to Matt Serra, he bounced back and dominated Josh Koscheck, beating Kos at his own game and looking like the GSP that we are used to seeing. Koscheck was riding high coming off a win over the previously undefeated Diego Sanchez, although it was a very boring fight, that was the fight that made alot of fans realize that koscheck was a legit fighter, including myself. Wether or not you like Koscheck(I can't stand the guy), you have to give GSP credit, Josh is a tough guy and GSP handled him easily.
With Serra/Hughes slated for after TUF 6, that fight won't happen until December or january, thats 4-5 months away. The winner of that fight most likely won't be ready to defend his belt until 3 months after that fight so it looks like GSP won't get another crack at the title until March of 08'(give or take a month).
What do you think the UFC has planned for GSP over the next 6-8 months?
Do you think he gets another fight against a top-contender, will they feed him a can or do you think they will sit him on the sidelines for 6-8 months, where they will give him a title shot against the winner of Serra/Hughes? Or it's possible they make him wait longer and they give the shot to someone else?

I would think he gets the winner of Serra vs Hughes. This whole TUF 6 thing has put the WW on hold, which sucks. I would love to see GSP face the winner of Fitch vs Sanchez.
I don't see them keeping inactive for that long, but you never know.

Well, Liddell went from to December to May in inactivity so I guess seeing GSP inactive this long won't be that big a deal anymore, I think were used to this sort of thing.
If he fough someone else and lost, that would totally screw up the UFC's outburst into Canada. Dana said his title shot is going to be in Canada.

I had the exact same thing in mind when I started this thread. Have him fight the winner of Fitch/Sanchez in January then have the winner fight the Serra/Hughes winner for the belt in March or April.
I think he would be better off having a fight in-between rather than sitting on the shelf for 7 months. He's too good to only fight 2 times a year.

Agreed, robb. GSP got crushed by Serra, and he really should work his way back up again, so facing the winner of Fitch vs Sanchez would be the smart move. Fitch has been on a really nice winning streak, and is finally getting some shine, and Diego, hopefully, won't perform like he did last time, which I think he won't.

Dana said in the interview on the front page that GSP would be fighting the winner of Hughes vs Serra.

If you look at his fight history, GSP was at his best when he was fighting every 4 months. 6-8 months is long time to not have any meaningful WW fights and there are other guys that deserve to be in the picture as well.
I think 1 more tuneup will actually do him good, going into a title fight.

unfortunately i think we're going to have to wait to see GSP kick the sh1t out of the winner of hughes/serra. bummer, but it gives us gsp nuthuggers something to look forward to.

GSP won't have another fight unless he asks for it and even if he does I don't know if they will give it to him. Dana really seems to like having either Hughes vs GSP 3 or GSP getting a rematch with Serra. Matching him up with either Diego or Fitch puts that at risk and also If he loses you don't have a clear cut #1 contender since if Diego beats Fitch and than GSP Koscheck has a complaint. If Fitch beat Diego and GSP Karo has a fair complaint. No one can really claim they deserve a title shot more than Georges.

You are probably right. If The UFC does in fact do a show in Canada, they will want GSP fighting for the title in it. Dana probably doesn't want to take a chance with him losing before that.
I wish the UFC didn't set up fights like this. Have guys fight 3 times a year, have the best fight the best, Don't keep good potential matchups under wraps because they are waiting for something else to materialize.
if a fighter is healthy and ready to fight, he should be fighting, not waiting for a reality show to end.
