The "human cockfighting" is a reference to John McCain (American Republican senator from Arizona, a state where MMA is now legal). That doesn't seem like a connection that the BMA should be looking to make from a political standpoint, but it's also not accurate.
John McCain was criticizing a sport that, at the time, had no rules. The BMA decided to misquote an American senator by using the wrong context, I guess they hoped no one would notice.
Firstly, it doesn't sound like these self righteous crusaders know how rigorous medical examinations and preparations are for these fights. From a fighter standpoint, the medical restrictions are enough of a pain in the ass as they are, without a group of doctors telling us that what we are doing is wrong.
The "civilized society" bit is what really gets me. She doesn't want this to be about the medical side, beside she knows that no one has died as a result of MMA and the "brain trauma" injuries that she's talking about don't happen.
She's just another person who wants to crusade against the sport because she thinks it's too violent. Every civilized society has had a combat sport, we're one of the few that is making it controversial. Every society dating back to the Greeks has used combat sport as a form of entertainment, and compared to them, we're pretty subdued.
Anyway, if I ever met this woman I'd tell her what I tell every person who thinks we should ban the sport:
If you don't like it, if it's not for you, don't watch it, but some people love this sport, some people need it to make money. Who the hell are you to tell people that they can't be a part of something that they are passionate about?

These people shouldn't be allowed to attempt to Ban anything, unless they are actually educated on what their trying to ban. They are assuming that Ultimate Fighting is still basically like it was in the early 90's. It wouldn't surprise me if they didn't even attempt to research any of the new rules, or dig deeper into the development of this sport.

In soccer and football there's people carried off in stretchers all the ******* time, often with season ending injuries. Id think those sports are much more dangerous on the joints than MMA.

Is this something she thought she'd do when she woke up? It's so plain, and pointless... injuries, fractures? That's very general... Brain damage? She doesn't back anything up with proof.
Now you're special Vivienne.

There really is no sport where injuries can not occur. Some present higher risks then others (Such as football over golf)though. Realistically, if they are going to try and ban MMA due to its risk Football, boxing, and grappling would need to be banned in addition to it.

Might as well wrap every citizen in bubble wrap. I wouldn't want to prematurely end their lives buy 15 minutes.
