If Shogun dominates Griffin how can anyone argue that he isn't the number one contender? He is the number one ranked LHW in the world so it's simple to hype, especially do to Shogun dismantling Rampage in there only fight. It makes perfect sence to have Shogun as the number one contender.

Or Bisping. God was he ever good.

TEAM LORD:
1. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira
2. Nate Marquardt
3. Goran Reljic
4. Amir Saddolah

TOTAL POINTS: +TBA

I think it was said above, but if everything goes to plan:

Rua vs Grffin - Rua gets Rampage for the title early 08

Liddell vs Jardine - Liddell gets Silva

Silva vs Liddell - winner gets shot at the title. This fight is in December. Title fight would be spring of 08.

Thats what they hope to happen.

But what will happen .... nobody knows. By some strange twist, Bisping wins the title in the UK ... lol ... kidding

This is from July so I doubt the SI link in the orginal article works. Shogun is #1 LHW champ so he should get a shot. Chuck and Wandy both need a couple of wins IMO before getting a shot. I am wondering if Wandy and Shogun will meet up now or the Chute Boxe no fighting thing will hold up.

With a win in his Octagon debut at UFC 76 in September, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua will earn the opportunity to challenge for the light heavyweight championship, according to recent statements from UFC President Dana White on SportsIllustrated.com.

Here’s the snip:
“White says that if Shogun wins in September, he will get the next title shot at the UFC Light Heavyweight Title. That could lead to a rematch with [Quinton “Rampage”] Jackson, who Shogun obliterated in Japan.”

I would have thought it would have been either Rampage or Hendo seeing how they are/were both carrying the belt in LHW

Personally I don't think Wandy should get a shot at the title before Shogun. Why? Because Shogun wasn't able to fight for the title in Pride because Wanderlei held it. Shogun IS the #1 LHW fighter in the sport and he is #1 contender by default IMO.

It would surely bolster his standing in the title mix, I think a shot would depend on how he won.

Machida will continue to win, and it's going to get to a point where Joe Silva has no choice but to book a title fight between whoever is holding the belt at that time against Lyoto. I just hope that we don't see Chuck vs Rampage 3.

Shogun vs Rampage 2 should be fun and interesting. That is, if Shogun gets past Forrest.

Personally, I think a win of any sort over Shogun (unless its a flukey win like the Coleman arm break scenario) would propel Forrest into #1 contendership.
