Additionally, the figures do not include money paid by sponsors, including the official UFC Athlete Outfitting sponsorship program pay. They also do not include any other “locker room” or special discretionary bonuses the UFC oftentimes pays.

For example, as previously reported, UFC officials handed out additional $50,000 UFC Fight Night 82 fight-night bonuses to Thompson, Rivas, Pyle and Spencer. Thompson and Rivas earned “Performance of the Night” awards while Pyle and Spencer picked up “Fight of the Night” honors.

^Happy about these posts :D. BE is filled with "But Stephen Thompson is only making ____" even though he clearly just hasn't negotiated his last contract and will certainly be getting MUCH more than that now (I wouldn't be surprised if his next contract earns him double).

That being said, devil's advocate is still reminding me why the pay has to go up.

Hopefully he gets more. Dude was on a 5-fight win streak, main evented and got less than Derrick Lewis on prelims and not that much more than prelim FlyW Justin Scoggins. Thompson is what Northcutt is supposed to be (at least martial arts background and skillwise). Top Kickboxer since childhood, married into a BJJ legend family, now family tied with former champ Weidman. Everything in his veins screams martial artist.

Surely fighters are responsible for their contract negotiations.

'_________' earns more on the prelims than '__________' in the main event, isn't really a reflection on the UFC it's more a reflection on how good the fighter's manager is at negotiating.

Thompson is obviously worth a lot more than $48K but i'm sure if he was unhappy then he wouldn't have signed the contract. Like Clyde said he'll be in line for a big boost when his negotiations come around.

I'm more concerned with the bottom tier - which is encouraging. I used to cringe at the $6,000/$6,000 contracts that guys were on not too long ago. It looks like if you make it to the UFC and win a fight the minimum you're getting now is $22,500 including Reebok money - which really isn't a bad base when you look at Bellator where a lot of prelim guys are winning and still making $2,000!

Seems like UFC has been able to help the mid tier recently. If a mid tier guy can make 50/50, even with Reebok there can't be any complaints. Bellator low level guys have sponsorship ops but I'd say with a win in Bellator, a bottom tier guy doesn't beat a UFC bottom tier guy who lost. While, sure, the UFC earns X amount and can afford Y amount...if they smash the competition then I don't blame them too much.

As long as guys earn around if not a little bit more than this suggests, UFC will be fair enough even with Reebok. We all discuss MMA expenses but to say OSP isn't laughing with 100k for one fight is to overestimate expenses.
