Yes its legal. Has to be to the body in the UFC, but you can axe kick down. GSP has done it one numerous occasions and Kongo did it to Cro Cop.

I agree with you for the most part, but soccer kicks are very easy to be effective with. You have all the muscles in your body to leverage with when you use a soccer kick. Even if you miss the intended target (the noggen) you have so much force behind it to cause lots of big ass bruises to other parts of the body. Same with stomps.

Also kicks and knees to a grounded opponent are legal in the UFC.

I think you guys are right, he'll make up the difference with his elbows on the ground. Using Pride 33 as an example isn't the greatest though, Overeem is a B level fighter and elbows weren't allowed on the ground in that event. Although Shogun did prevail with a lack of being able to use ground knees, soccer kicks, stomps, and elbows. So I'm sure he has a gameplan for every set of rules.

Shogun will prevail, but I wouldn't put it past Griffin to put up a good fight.
