Griffin vs. Tavares Discussion

I couldn't find a sticky w/ this so I thought I'd start a discussion.

This is a tough match to call. Seems like Tavares is the favourite, but I'm think I'm taking Tyson. I see Tavares coming out very aggressive in the first round, going immediately for the takedown, and it being stuff'd/reversed by tyson, who finishes the fight from the top position fending off submission attempts. With round 2 and 3 being similar except Tavares being out of gas and Tyson pounding out a decision.

I'd like some responses to see what everyone else thinks, maybe I'll change my position.

Tavares is not the favorite. He's a considerable underdog. He's +135, while Griffin is -165. Most guys online seem to take Tavares, but the gamblers are ironically loading up on Griffin.

I like Griffin in this fight, for sure, and I wish the Tavares fans would put their money where their mouth is.

yeah sorry bout that...

i assumed he was the underdog cuz on the facebook fantasy pool it says:

72.84% of users have picked Thiago Tavares to Win
27.16% of users have picked Tyson Griffin to Win

but then again it also says:

25.52% of users have picked Jon Fitch to Win
74.48% of users have picked Diego Sanchez to Win

so yeah, never use as reason again..noted.

really not sure how this one is going to go. my pick is with tavares, but i haven't seen enough of him to be able to pick with any level of accuracy. depends on how good of shape he comes in at. i guess we'll just have to see.

I don't think Tavares is going to shoot right away, isn't he a practicing black belt in Muay Thai? I think Tyson will be the one to take it to the ground.

It's hard to judge how good Tavares is, considering his last opponent looked malnourished.

Tavares is a freakin' machine; the guy just doesn't stop, has a good ground game, and pretty good wrestling.

Griffin has improved striking, good wrestling, and a good ground game. The problem with Tyson is that he can gas.

I haven't seen Tavares gas yet, and I do believe that he'll push the pace against Griffin.

Tough fight for me to predict, but right now, I'm going with Thiago Tavares. His sourpuss look is impressive.

I think Tyson is a little overrated by some people. Not saying he sucks at all, definately a top guy but I remember after he debuted and beat some nobody named Jason Lee in a minute or 2 people were saying Tyson would dominate the division with ease and all sorts of Vera-like talk. Since then he has lost to Frank Edgar, and many people feel he lost against Clay Guida.

Tavares looked extremely good against a tough opponent in Jason Black. His ground game was almost flawless, but I'm not sure on his standup. I don't remember how well he fought on his feet in that fight and I don't know enough about him to know if his standup is any better than Tyson's. I think his ground game alone looks good enough to beat Tyson.
