Seriously? Every round was exactly the same. Sherk Shoots for a takedown Franka knees him in the head. Sherk Humps him the rest of the round landing minimal strikes.

Seriously the LW divison outside of the UFC is much stronger than the UFC's. If you don't believe me watch the K-1 Heroes GP tommorow. Andre Dida Amade has so much potential it's scary he might be the most talented LW standing in MMA. JZ Calcavancti is as good as every LW in the UFC except possiblY BJ and Sherk but BJ doesn't seem to be intersted in staying at LW for a long time and Sherk is possibly suspended. Vitor Shoalin Riberio is probably as good if not better than JZ and on the ground would give BJ a run for his money. Caol Uno who is a UFC veteren. Is I would say still as good as the majority of the UFC LW's. That isn't even counting Gomi, Diaz, and all the other LW's who are FA or in Shooto/K-1/other orgs.

Im unimpressed by Gomi.

Demian Maia may be the Fred Astaire of jiu-jitsu, but itís too bad Silva is the Gene Kelly of kicking everyoneís ass.

I don't think Gomi is as good as advertised but he is a top 5 LW in the world for now. I think that Vitor, BJ, JZ, Sherk, and in the future Dida, and Taveras will all be better than him.

I agree his lost to Diaz was horrible, its one of the reasons I think the UFC LWs could hang with most of these guys.

Obviously you haven't seen much of his fights then. Watch him vs Jens Pulver.

As far as the topic goes, I think the LW division in the UFC is severly underrated. The top LW's in the UFC are the top LW's in the world, period. There are obviously good LW's in Japan and other places, but the UFC still has a stacked division.

Meh, I like Gomi and would feel that he'd be an exciting addition to UFC's LW division, but he can be inconsistent. There are times when Gomi looks unstoppable (vs Kawajiri), and then there are times when Gomi looks like utter garbage (vs Aurelio the first time). I'd like to see him fight someone like Clay Guida. You just need to watch the correct fights, like his fights against Azeredo (The first), Pulver, Kawajiri, Sakurai, and Ishida.

I think Sherk's a tough fight for pretty much everyone. I mean, the guy won't stop until the fight's over, and his stand-up has improved. Maybe someone like Shinya Aoki could beat him, since Aoki loves to work from his guard. Aoki's more of a WW, though.

Hansen, Kawajiri, Melendez, JZ, Shaolin, and Uno should all be in the UFC LW division, but Hansen turned them down, and the only guy who looks to even have a shot is Melendez. Uno should've been brought back, since he's still a really solid fighter.

I saw the Pulver fight, ive seen a few others too - and even when he wins i just don't leave thinking "man that guys going to be hard to beat". He looks good at times, but never as good as people were declaring before, (and even after strangly enough) the Diaz fight. Would he be a cool addition to the UFC? Absolutely. Do i really think he's top 5? Not so much, and he's certainly not #1 like MMA Weekly think.

In response to your second paragraph. I agree. Im not sure why the UFC dont get the credit i think they deserve, buit as someone mentioned up thread, i think it's got more to do with how long the division has been active more than the fighters in it.

edit - and please. Just because i have a different opinion on a fighter does not mean i havent seen them fight. That's just rude.

I just wanted to say that Marcus Davis really wants to fight Gomi because he feels that they can have the greatest war ever. I think Davis vs Gomi would freakin' rule.

I know, I know, Davis is a WW, and the fight would probably take place at that weight, but man, that fight would be a slugfest.

Marcus Davis rules.

Then who would be in your top 5?

See that's the thing. A lot of the good LW guys fight in different organisations so it's hard to sort all of them. Sherk and BJ are the top as far as im concerned, then after them you have guys like Diaz, Yamamoto, Sakurai, Stevenson, and Gomi. After the top 2, the rest of the guys listed are all good in thier own way. That's why i said "not so much" as opposed to "not top 5".

It's just hard to rank the lightweights imo. However, Gomi isn't top 3, ill say that for certain.
