Are LW outside the UFC that much better?

I was looking at the rankings at MMA Weekly and noticed UFC fighters show up frequently in the top ten of most divisions except for the LWs.

There's always talk of how deep this division is but only Joe Daddy is on the list and he's #8. Are the other LWs
that much better or is MMA Weekly just overlooking the UFC talent.

Yeah, most LW talent is from Japan and Korea. The have more established LW Division's than the UFC will ever have, because the UFC waited a long time to start one and then disbanded it for a long time as well.

The LW Division in the UFC is continuing to evolve but they just haven't got there yet. MMAWeekly's Rankings look pretty good.

Honestly I think Sherk is the best LW in the world but just hasn't fought enuff guys...

The fighters outside the ufc in LW are just more established, that's why they are ranked higher. It's tough to say how a guy like Joachim or Gomi would do against someone like Sherk, but I think sherk would dominate them.

The only reason why Sherk is not there is because hes suspended.. else he would be #2 or #1 in the world, assuming whatever he takes is not the cause of his success.

There is a lot of fighters that are good at LW outside of the UFC, so when they fight each other, they got higher into rankings.

I dont think UFC LW are that much worse than other LWs in the world, i just think talents are fighting each other more often outside of the UFC.

But in general, LWs outside of the UFC are better. The population in general in Asia are lighter than the Americans, so in proportion, they have more LW fighters than any other higher weight classes, so they are bound to have more talented fighters.

Bring back knees strikes on grounded opponents.. Give me good arguments for not having them for crying out loud.

UFC LW div has depth its just new talent and MMA weekly's ranking are never spot on anyway. The division is just as good as any of the others out there IMO. As far as established bah bring them in lets see what they can do against Diaz, Stevenson, Florien, Fransca and Sherk when he gets back and thats just the few I can think of off the top of my head. It really is a deep division when you start looking at it.

a guy who almost no one knew before gave Diaz a run for his money last night. And by run for his money, i mean really giving him a run for his money.

Sherk doesnt deserve to be on that list. Hes got a needle in his arm before he fights so he dont deserve anything. WOuld he beat Gomi? There is a good chance. Lay and Gay all the way.

seems like alot of fans don't find sherk entertaining...he was getting boo'd big time in california at ufc 73 (keep in mind, almost everyone got boo'd by those hippies)

i for one, love sherk's fights. his last fight w/ franca was honestly one of my favourite fights ever
