Big Nog vs. Mir!

Five Ounces of Pain | Report: Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira to fight Frank Mir

I am not sure if I believe the report 100% yet just for the fact a lot of stuff that comes from TAGG Radio has turned out to be false or at least a lot of stuff that I have heard from there. So hold your breath on this one. Plus don't they want to build Mir back up? Shouldn't they just give Nog the title shot right now and give Mir an easier fight?

If this is true I bet it's because Mir asked for it. Say what you want about the guy's last few fights, he's still got a great attitude... I'd be pulling for Mir in this fight.

This is really unneccessary, I understand giving Nog some fights, but they really need to move this HW div along better.

They should give Mir someone whos also in his situation or rank.

Well, actually, to think about it, giving Nog, Mir, would be pretty good for Nog if he beats him. Because if he were to get Randy right away hed have to wait till atleast Feb, but facing and possibly beating Mir would give him more experience and steam, so I guess its not bad at all.

AND, if Mir puts on a good show, despite a possible loss, hed be right back in the game too.

chaoyungphat can only hope to improve
This is a bad fight for big nog, he should be fighting someone higher in contender status.

Slow down everyone while I think Nogueira will win this fight. On the gronud this thing has all the makings of a crazy battle. Frank Mir has a world class ground game and if Nogueira doesn't keep this standing Mir has a shot at winning. That being said I see a uneventful stand up fight that Nogueira wins.

C'mon guys this fight would better than you think. Mir's agressive submission style could be seen as similar to someone like Barnett... and we all know how good those fights were. Plus Mir has like 10 or 20lbs on Nog. If this happens, I'd go with Mir. I'm not even just starting shit either.

I was just going to come back and say this pretty much that don't get carried away with saying Nog will destroy Mir because of the way this year has gone so far anything can happen look at Cro Cop wasn't he supposed to be champ by now? I agree with bbjd7 that Nog takes it by DEC though.

Report: Frank Mir to Face Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira
Posted by MMA Junkie on September 19, 2007 at 12:36 am ET
With a win over Antoni Hardonk last month at UFC 74, one-time UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir (10-3 MMA, 8-3 UFC) will reportedly get a step up in competition and face Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (30-4-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) in his next fight.

TAGG Radio, a daily MMA Internet show hosted by Frank Trigg, made the announcement on today’s program, reports MMAjunkie.com contributor and fiveouncesofpain.com editor Sam Caplan.

No date for the fight was given, though a Dec. 29 UFC 79 event in Las Vegas has long been rumored as a possibility for Nogueira’s return to the Octagon.

Nogueira, a former PRIDE champion and top-ranked heavyweight contender, made his UFC debut back in July at UFC 73. Facing Heath Herring, Nogueira suffered a head kick that floored the Brazilian fighter. Inexplicably, Herring allowed his opponent to return to his feet and regain his composure, and Nogueira rebounded for a unanimous-decision victory.

The submission specialist was considered an immediate contender when he signed on with the UFC earlier this year, and it stands to reason that if he does indeed take on Mir and pull out a victory, he could be a line for a title shot in mid-2008.

This is what I found on mmajunkie...a very reliable website...

I personally think Big Nog has to be the big favourite in this fight. Nog has better standup and I still think Nog has the slight advantage on the ground.

Lets stay realistic hear...Mir beat Hardonk...someone who is arguably more useless on the ground than Kongo.
