The rematch is once again official.

Jon Jones will fight Daniel Cormier in a light heavyweight unification title bout at UFC 200, as first reported during a telecast of Good Morning America on Wednesday. The fight will headline the July 9 card in Las Vegas, at the brand new T-Mobile Arena.

"UFC 200 has been, uh, interesting to say the least, putting this thing together," UFC president Dana White said on the show. "There's been some crazy things that have gone on. Some ups and downs. Jon Jones just fought on Saturday night and won his fight against OSP. He's been out for 15 months, and now he's back, and he wants his light heavyweight UFC title back. So the main event will be Daniel Cormier versus Jon Jones."

Jones was originally slated to face Cormier at UFC 197 this past Saturday, yet the current 205-pound champion had to withdraw due to an injury. He was replaced by Ovince Saint Preux, who lost a unanimous decision to Jones. The fight was contested for an interim title.

The Jones-Cormier rematch had been rumored for the big UFC 200 card, yet Jones was nursing a sore foot after his fight with Saint Preux. Though he has yet to have an x-ray taken, he tweeted out on Tuesday evening that he was walking around and the foot was fine.

"I just want to get back to my original plan and dominate Daniel Cormier again," said Jones on the show.

The bad blood between Cormier and Jones extends back to UFC 178, where the two were booked to meet for Jones' light heavyweight title. During a press conference for the fight, the two engaged in a brawl. Jones had to pull out of the fight with a leg injury, but they finally met at UFC 182 in early-2015.

Jones won the first fight via unanimous decision.

He was stripped of his title just a few months later after a hit-and-run incident in Albuquerque. Before then Jones had eight title defenses. In his absence Cormier defeated Anthony Johnson for the vacant belt at UFC 187, and later defended it against Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 192 in Houston.

UFC 200 will feature a women's bantamweight title fight between Miesha Tate and Amanda Nunes, as well as an interim featherweight title fight between Jose Aldo and Frankie Edgar.

Urgh, I'm just gonna quit clicking "View Post" on jonny's messages. Between him and DonRifle, the wank fest over McGregor and Diaz and shitting on literally EVERY other MMA fight is unbearable.

Why don't you guys just stick on youtube and watch highlight videos of those guys? Neither of you are into any other fighters besides your respective heros so why even boring pretending to like MMA?

/Rant

Anyways, @HitOrGetHit, now you take the target. Cormier pulls out of ONE fight and now he's injury prone?

It is funny the hate the UFC is getting.
People are basically moaning because UFC 198 is better than UFC 200... surely that's something to celebrate? Two incredible cards insteas of one?
Put any other number other than 200 on the poster and people would be over the moon at a card that has jones/DC, Aldo/Edgar, Tate/Nunes and Cain/Browne on it

I dont think anyone is saying the card sucks....

I think people are bitching about people bitching but people ardnt bitching that hard. Im sure Jones DC is a big fight for most.....im just not that crazy about it.

Its a great card. But no 1 fight gets my pants wet.

Aldo vd Edgar will be interesting to sed who wants it more at this stage. I feel Aldo crumbling.

Yeah I even agreed with you elsewhere. But it was the "crickets, that sums it up" idea that everyone hates this card. It's one of the best cards in star power of all time.

I agree with the above post though that it has the potential to be a bit boring all the same. Then again doesn't Ronda and Holly have to potential to be a cakewalk win for Ronda? When you think it's boring...it could be the greatest ever.

The only gripe I have about the card is the potential for it to be boring.

I favour exciting fights over important fights/big names. Tate/Nunes has potential to be a wrestling dominated boring 5 rounder, hendricks/Gastulem will almsot certainly be a 3 round stalling fest, Aldo and Edgar should put on a show but it's such an important fight for both they could play it safe and in Jones/Cormier 1 they pretty much neutralised each other so that doesn't fill me with hope that the 2nd fight will be the war i'm hoping for.

I'm just trying to be positive I guess, there is decent name value on the card and the fights are intriguing/important but it's lacking the Hendo/Bisping and Leben/Akiyama 'fan friendly' type fights that UFC 100 had and that UFC 198 is full of. There is still space for 3 or 4 more fights on the card so i'm still hopefull - I've changed my mind about convincing Nate to stay on the card, I didn't want to see him get a nothing fight after being taken out the ME but at this point i think the card needs someone like him or Cerrone who is 100% going to guarantee entertainment.

Im with you there. Its a reall good card. I just think they went overboard with the 200 biggest of all time hype. First it wont be rven top 3 biggest card. Maybe not even top 5. And it just has nothing exciting.

For the hardcore fan who is going to jerk off to Tate Nunes sure. But I just must not be that hardcore anymore.

Ha; i made myself laugh

I wouldnt say worrying. Just a fact that we all already know ~~ UFC 200 will sell much less without Conor.

UFC knows this we know this.

I think it makes more sense for the UFC. 200 will still do solid ppv and then Conor at 201 or 202 will add another big card automatically that tbey wouldnt of had so fast. Then MSG will do solid ppv as well.

Conor vs Nate with all Am fights on the rest of the card would have done 1 million. So it makes no sense business-wise to put Conor on a stacked card.

Im just pissed we may never see Conor Nate 2.

Sorry Clyde I agree with Don here. It's a fantastic card for people you and I but its lacking personality.

The card is not beyond saving though (popularity wise). I haven't given up on Conor or GSP being on the card yet and I'm sure they could make a spot on the card for Bisping v Romero too, if Bisping is prepared to take it.

198, and I think almost everyone prefers 198. It again is one of the greatest cards I can remember though.

I just can't wait until we fill up a little bit more of the cards around 200. In 2015, we got what were imo two of the greatest weeks in MMA history. (From McGregor/Mendes until Bisping/Leites) and (From PVZ/Namajunas to McGregor/Aldo).

This time, here's how it's shaping up:-

July 7 - UFC Fight Night 90
Rafael dos Anjos Vs Eddie Alvarez - Lightweight Title
Joseph Duffy Vs Mitch Clarke

July 8 - TUF 23 Finale
Joanna Jedrzejczyk Vs Claudia Gadelha - Woman's Strawweight Title
TUF Finale 1
TUF Finale 2
Jake Matthews Vs Stevie Ray
James Krause Vs Ross Pearson

July 9 - UFC 200
Daniel Cormier Vs Jon Jones - Light Heavyweight Title
Jose Aldo Vs Frankie Edgar - Interim Featherweight Title
Miesha Tate Vs Amanda Nunes - Woman's Bantamweight Title
Cain Velasquez Vs Travis Browne
Johny Hendricks Vs Kelvin Gastelum
Gegard Mousasi Vs Derek Brunson
Joe Lauzon Vs Diego Sanchez
Sage Northcutt Vs Enrique Marin
Takanori Gomi Vs Jim Miller
Cat Zingano Vs Juliana Pena

July 13 - UFC Fight Night 91
Tim Boetsch Vs Josh Samman

These are just the fights I'm interested in. Without those other 3 cards having more fights, it's definitely not as strong as the other ones were...but there's definitely some potential for some amazing fights still to be added to those other cards.

I'm not sure thats the best way to do it, unless you can remember the hype of the time. But A+ for effort.

One thing UFC200 does have going for it is the undercard, the only thing its missing is a championship fight and it could be a numbered event all on its own.

#39 ·
I looked at some things like the record of the fighters beforehand and tried to forget what their career was like and who won the fight after it and stuff like that. I pretty much remember the hype of guys in everything since 129 but 100 and 129 left me kind of assuming. Things like putting Jon Fitch so high though is because I knew he was a big deal you know?

#42 ·
How many times have these guys ALMOST fought? They actually have gotten into fights outside the octagon the same amount of times as in the octagon. Which is crazy because they have set to fight numerous times and its been changed because of injuries or whoever was on drugs that week.

Had fun reading through this thread. The best was Clyde's attempt to push 200 to 2nd most 'star power laden' card out of the options presented. I love that effort. Atta-boy. As a hardcore fan, I'm stoked for the card, but agree with others that it's missing that 'it' factor that we all wanted. I'm biased and wanted Conor on it, but understand why he's not. Also, the chatter about a GSP return fueled further hope that some massive return fight would happen.

Those two elements aside, I think I'd be pretty hyped for this card if Jones hadn't just fought like he had against OSP. I get all those saying "OSP is a tough fighter, get off Jones back" but we're talking about the P4P king (now it's MM according to most) and we wanted a dominating , brutal finish. (GIVE ME BLOOOOD)

Anyway, great thread folks. Thanks for all adding your two cents, I've had fun perusing. Been awhile since I've done so for an entire 5 page thread like this.

*edit, I just made it 6 Pages. You're welcome.*

Once I start some statistics, it's like I can't stop. I lead a depressing and sad life shiprower.

I even agree that I feel it's slightly missing that x factor, but that's just a weird bullshit feeling that doesn't mean anything. In actual "big names", this card is easily one of the biggest of all time.

They're not spoilt MMA fans, they're Conor nutwashers, everyone with a brain cell is hyped for these very legit cards.

That's why I think the hardcore McNugget fanbase is a cult, not legitimate MMA fandom. They literally block out everything in MMA to the exclusion of an overhyped tool who owns their soul.

I get that there are some regular MMA fans who like watching him fight, but his "dedicated" fanbase is on the level of media brainwashed stupidity as Beiber fans, One Directioners or pewdiepie "bros".
I disagree with this because who on this site wasn't here before McGregor. That's definitely true for the stupid fks who say things like "UFC 200 sucks without McGregor" but we don't have any "new fans" on here. Fk I'm probably the newest out of the lot of you and I've been watching for like 5-6 years now.

It's mainly that people fking love to complain. I bet if Jon Jones retired, people would start bitching that the UFC is lacking star power and they miss the days of Anderson, GSP and Jones. I had to post several times when those 3 were at the top that people should remember that we have 3 of the greatest of all time competing right now, because you'll be remembering them fondly once they retire.

People love things in hindsight, but on the internet it seems like the status quo is to enjoy nothing. Same with WWE fans, music fans...everything. We just need to remember that this card is awesome, has some awesome fights, and so do every other card coming up. Amazing time to be into the sport.

I never got the idea of Pewdiepie and shit. I don't actually hate the lad or anything but I have more fun playing shit myself. Only time I ever watch someone else play a game is something like Kevin's Black Ops Trolling, a tutorial on a level or if it's DLC I didn't get like the Last of Us one where I wanted to see the story (or MGS5 unfortunately).

Fights in order that I am most looking forward to on these next 3 PPVs plus the free shit.

1. Weidman v Rockhold II (underrated fight, everyone loved this fight going into the 1st fight.
2. MacDonald v Wonderboy
3. Jones v DC II
4. Werdum v Miocic
5. Almeida v Garbrandt
6. Cruz v Faber III ( I have become a Cruz fan since his injuries and watching Faber get beat for a title one last time will be fun to me, plus they have a history)
7. Edgar v Aldo II
8. Anderson v Hall
9. Overeem Arlovski
10. Hendo v Lombard

Fights in order that I am most looking forward to on these next 3 PPVs plus the free shit.
1. Fabricio Werdum Vs Stipe Miocic (I think Stipe takes it)
2. Jacare Souza Vs Vitor Belfort (Interesting clash of styles)
3. Anderson Silva Vs Uriah Hall (Anderson, nuff said)
4. Demian Maia Vs Matt Brown (Even more interesting clash)
5. Jose Aldo Vs Frankie Edgar (Should be a war)
6. Rory MacDonald Vs Stephen Thompson (Stephen's proper test)
7. Daniel Cormier Vs Jon Jones (Dat rivalry)
8. Luke Rockhold Vs Chris Weidman (Dat rivalry pt. 2)
9. Thomas Almeida Vs Cody Garbrandt (Next top star)
10. Eddie Alvarez Vs Rafael dos Anjos (50/50 title fight)

To do this, I actually had to physically write down every fight I'm interested in, order them and then cut everything after. Hard to cut fights I'm desperate to see haha.

I follow a ton of gamers on Twitch/Youtube. I cannot stand Pewdiepie though...
I wouldn't actually mind the lad if I was into that stuff but I'd just never really be into watching someone on Twitch and stuff. It's something I'd love to do none the less. Me and a mate were gonna do a "Let's Play Drunk" a few years ago but after some prep, never pulled the trigger.

UFC 200 is fine, every single fight on that card would be a main event on a lesser show. The problem is the four main events they've got are all crappy PPV main events. What UFC 200 is missing is that is both an exciting fight and a fight where you don't know who is going to win. (Holm/Rousey II, Rousey/Cyborg, McGregor/Edgar, McGregor/Diaz II, Jones/Werdum, GSP/Silva etc.).

Jones/DC - might be close, but you feel like Jones is likely going to win 50-45.

Aldo/Edgar - another rematch where you figure either Aldo is done and he'll go out in 1 round or it will be another 48-47 decision.

Tate/Nunes - Is the sort of fight that should be the comain because it has a massive upsize. It could also be short and sweet or long and boring. Nunes is basically the female Wanderlei Silva where she could come out and give you a classic or completely collapse and their is even a chance that to save her cardio she doesn't pull the trigger for 25 minutes and loses to Tate that way.

Browne/Velasquez and Zingano/Pena both are FOX card main event caliber fights and they are really good fights and should be on the main card.

Brusnon/Mousasi is a FN main it's got really good potential as it's basically the perfect striker vs grappler match.

Hendricks/Gastelum could be a FN main, I would have liked to see them kick off the show with this one, because if you don't get a 1 round finish it could be a brutal wrestling match.

Northcutt/Martin is a main event we've seen the UFC put on, an injury replacement meant to highlight a star.

Lauzon/Sanchez and Gomi/Miller are Fightpass main events sort of the LW versions of Hendo vs Shogun.

I dunno man, it should be the best card in UFC history.

But I do believe this card will change dramatically before the night in question.

Jones is injured and so is Cormier, that fight has very low odds of happening.
Cain has a less then 50% chance of showing up given his track record, and I believe Im correct with that statistic.
Hendricks and Gastelum in one fight is asking for trouble really, pile up the stats on one of those guys not making weight and its the flip of a coin. And given that they cut so much with no IV now surely it puts it in serious question.
Aldo has pulled out of so many fights whether he shows up is also a coin flip.
Theres no sarcasm there thats reality.

I think this is a major dropping of the ball by the UFC to line this card up like this. Not only does it not get the juices flowing in terms of what the MMA world has been talking about for over a year, almost all the big fights are high risk bouts with people that have consistently let down the UFC. I would not be surprised if Cain and Cormier injure eachother en route

I'm confused what the UFC's plan with Lawlor is.

He may not be a top 5 draw but he'd have to be in every MMA fans top 3 entertaining fighters. Surely palming him off on UFC 201 or 202 is a terrible idea, he's perfect for UFC 200 - a relevant exciting title holder. It's too late now without a reshuffle because the UFC aren't gonna put 4 title fights on a card.

#68 ·
For the risk of the show running well over the allotted time.

I never understood why they have time limits for PPVs, surely once it's paid for it can go as long as it goes, but if I remember UFC 100 correctly they had to put a fight after the main event because there was a danger the PPV would cut off before the event finished. Maybe that's changed now :dunno:

#69 ·
Honestly mate, I don't think it makes a difference. It's PPV, whats on after the PPV that can't be delayed or rescheduled.

In football programs are often delayed incase of extra-time. I remember Liverpool winning the European Cup in epic fashion in extra time, but programs were delayed even further so that the news at 10 could celebrate it.
