I don't think he has much chance of winning against a guy he couldn't beat with a full camp.....BUT
I really hope the UFC appreciates what he's doing and rewards him well for it.
I know it's confusing for gobblers but it is MIKE who is stepping up, taking a last minute fight and saving the show not Luke.
It's a shame it's so hard to see him winning, but I'm fully up on the war wagon. I wanted Rockhold to smash Weidman, but then I realized him and Weidman are just the same person so I hate him too.
This is strange. Where's all the hate guys? Just a few years ago I'd have come rampaging into this thread posting stats and numbers as to why Bisping is better than you're all giving him credit for!?
:thumb02:
I agree that this is an incredible ask from Bisping, in real terms he really has only a small chance to win the fight. With that in mind, I don't care if he wins or loses, for me this fight is a celebration of all the things Bisping has achieved over the last decade, it's a chance for us (his fans) to celebrate the man and the fighter.
I understand that for our American (or international) posters you must wonder what all the fuss is about, a good (but not great) middleweight with intermittent losses - what's the big deal?
For us the big deal is UFC 70, UFC Glasgow, Dan Hardy, Ross Pearson, BAMMA, Cage Warriors and countless other ground that has been broken; literally ANYTHING good about British MMA can be traced back to Michael Bisping, without him I have no idea whether or not we'd have any MMA scene worth mentioning at all.
If Bisping can win, somehow someway, it would be the perfect time to ride off into the sunset and say THANKS but NO THANKS. As a Bisping fan I might aswell pack the whole thing in because it could not get any sweeter than that.
Its time for Bisping fans to strap in one last time and hope that somehow he is able to pull this off. This is his only and last time he will fight for the belt. Bisping still still has his haters but over the years people have softened to him, I'm not sure why but I think people admire his tenacity and his willingness to start again.
Got a feeling he'll retire if he loses, it'll be a sad day for MMA when he does. Love him or hate him, he has been an absolute trooper for the UFC and always given us MMA fans something to talk about over the past 10 years.
I'm backing Bisping to win this fight. He's gonna close the distance and rattle Rockhold, clip him with a couple of short elbows, take him down and win by KO!
I think the most commendable aspect of Bisping as well is that he's not really naturally that good at anything. You have guys like Belfort who had great hands as soon as he started training. You've got guys like Maia who likely trained his art to it's entirety as soon as he possibly could. But when Bisping joined UFC, he wasn't great anywhere. He's been able to put together some of the most technical boxing in MMA, overcome weaknesses like a dodgy chin and a lack of knockout power and probably most impressively, he's shown that his grappling is up there with a lot in the division.
After the Tim Kennedy fight, I said he was done. Bisping could have slaughtered him that night. Kennedy was laying on the fence, unable to breath, and Bisping just watched him. I thought he was done from then on and gave the fight away. His fight against Cung Le? Absolute brutality and showed me that Bisping's still got one more shot in him.
Great to see him finally get his opportunity at the gold, but it's a shame for him. Rockhold is better in every area, will be more confident AND has a full camp. That being said, a confident Anderson in the height of his defences was the hardest guy Bisping could ever fight so he's never been set up for an easy shot.
The furthest up the rankings is Tom Breese (10-0) who also fights at UFC 199, he is 3-0 in the UFC and has beaten all his opponents handily. http://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Tom-Breese-45986
There's also plenty of really good guys fighting at UK level who could easily be in the UFC in the next 12-24 months and overtake the fighters I've named.
I agree. He'll fight again at Bellator London against an opponent he should comfortably beat, after that they should either put him in with the champ or the #2 guy, no point dragging this out anymore.
I know nothing about Brett Johns other than he would never join my BAMMA org and loved UCMMA in World of Mixed Martial Arts 4. I should check him out sometime.
MVP was the first guy I saw in an other org and was huge into. I think Joanna, Conor and Tom Duquesnoy (and I'll add in Paddy Pimblett now even though I doubt BJJ guys often) are the only people I've seen pre-big promotion and been a fan of. MVP was the first of all that. When I first joined here he was in my sig, avatar, all sorts. I did my highlight reel video for him and shit for an assignment in a course. Now though...just hard to get behind the guy's run. He's always injured and still isn't taking big leaps forward. This is why the UFC is the best promotion, you don't get that luxury. You get put against a guy, 9 times out of 10, that is at least very close to even to you. Bellator is trying to play the boxing game of getting people to 20-0 first.
Go on youtube and google Lew Long vs Steve Dinsdale. Crazy fight. Lewis Long is Wales best fighter IMO and I'm hoping he can get a crack on a British UFC undercard soon.
Bisping gets a lot of hate but unlike some others his trash talk really isn't personal or malicious, he is ACTUALLY just a rough lad type who yanks people's chains a bit.
A fighter with great heart and a good mix who's been around forever and never had the chance. This could be it
I'm always nervous for Bisping fights, this is no exception (much like the first Rockhold fight)...but I will seriously lose my shit if Bisping pulls off a win!
I used to be a huge fan of Michael Bisping but went off him, it actually offended my ears, him acting like a nasty offensive prick in order to sell fights. It's not on the characteristics of a hero to go off at an opponent like a shrill ratchet hoe who's had their drugs stolen.
And afterwards it was all was like, oh there's no hard feelings, it was just to build up the fight. When we're like, wow really we assumed your opponent had shat on your mother's dinner table, you were so vitriolic.
My problem is, there's little entertainment in Bisping's antics, who wants to listen to any nasty **** ranting fake nonsense.maybe it's novel for Americans to hear but it is standard fare for any insecure plastic gangster in England.
Apart from that I wish him well. He is given a heck of a lot of entertainment and a board found his striking style very interesting.
Enjoy your ride on the wagon y'all. It's going to be a short one.
“Mike, he’s a tough dude, he took this fight, but this will not be his fairy tale. This will be his swansong. This will be the end of him. I am going to go out there and dominate this guy like he’s never been before.”
“You earned this, I’ll give you that. You earned this fight. You beat a champion. You beat a champion in Anderson Silva and you would have probably won that fight handily if you didn’t complain about your mouthpiece and get clipped. But, you will not be a champion. I will humiliate you next week. It’s going to be so one-sided.” -Luke
To be honest I hate when fighters have all this animosity and then take it all back after the fight. That's one thing I like about Conor...he's as big of a dick after the fight as he is in it. He'll reiterate all the negatives he said before the fight.
Conor doesn't do that. He gives props after the fight, thats how you're supposed to smack talk, belittle the opponent before the fight and big him up after the fight - it makes you look better. I can't ever recall Conor talking smack after the fight.
