I believe it has something to do with Airborne Viruses in Japan. Ive seen videos and pictures of cities full of people all wearing those masks.
Maybe they were wearing them to get used to the air here, or maybe they were trying to prevent themselves from picking up some virus the stage crew, the audience or someone around might have and happen to be unclean about their methods.

Or they were getting their lols........
Those masks don't stop viruses, or change the air. They stop dust particles(from building work/city polution) getting into your lungs and lessen the chance of you giving other people what you have and stop some spore viruses.

Really though, that is just what I assumed considering they look just like the hospital masks every employee has to be sized up for, and you have to wear in areas containing airborne viruses.

He was wearing an entire outfit, there was nothing at all silly about his pants. The silly thing was how he pulled them up.
If you wore sweatpants to Japan and pulled them up to your nerps they would laugh too.. still sweatpants.

Since SARS hit China and other asian countries, they been wearing those masks. i dont think SARS is that big of a risk anymore, but still scared them pretty good.
just asked a nurse (mom) if the masks filter viruses.... and got a depends answer. there are different grades to the masks... a lower one will filter air but probably wont filter much in terms of viruses. high grade ones like the ones used during surguries will stop alot of the viruses but not all.
and ya the antics were just japanese showmanship.

Wow u were actually serious??
The masks have nothing to do with any kind of virus, from Japan or for the US..
thousands, or hundred of thousands travel everyday from US to japan, and none of them wear masks. And even without knowing that, you think Nakamura trains with a mask on everyday? Cmon.. It's not like they were in a quarantine zone or anything. Besides, if there was a virus from Japan, then every1 traveling from there would get checked before getting in.
It was just a joke that most of us didnt get. And i would like some1 who did to explain to me the joke, because i am completly clueless about it.

We Japs like to make people laugh. It's in our blood. The antics and pants were simply just to be goofy and get people to loosen up towards him. The mask, well I heard Nak was joking around with the UFC saying he will make sure he wears the mask so that he doesn't spread any of his Jap diseases to us Americans. The wig was a stereotype wig, would be like a black guy wearing an Afro wig, or a white guy wearing a mullet wig.
Nakamura is a hilarious mofo. I hope he wins tonight WAR NAK!
