I think the UFC has the talent pool in some of their divisions to try and get a Grand Prix type event going. I know the rules and format would have to be different than that of Pride but it could happen.

There's creative minds here, any thoughts on how a tournament format would work in the UFC? Both with regulations and with the fan base

I understand that everyone has a fighting shot. I agree that it makes the sport great. What is weird though, is that there is no such thing as an upset anymore. Every fighter that is considered great have been getting beat by guys that aren't even in the top 10.

Matt hughes
GSP
Franklin
Rua
Cro cop twice

probobly more that I have forgot because there have been so many damn upsets.

Dude not that I like to stand up for Hughes, but he lost to GSP who im pretty sure was a top 10 fighter at the time.

I honestly think that the gap between the "superstars" and the up and comers is beginning to decrease.

I think alot of us still think of Forrest and Jardine as TUF competitors more than actual legit contenders in the division.

To be honest I dont mind the unpredictability of it all. If ya like the superstars always to win then go watch boxing.

Maybe this sport is at the top of it's evolution, and everyone will just be equal because they all train in the same stuff. It will all just be opportunity and luck that will dictate who wins.

Randy couture over fedor
its deffinantly not luck its who is better on that night and thats all

Na im very worried. Ill admit im new to mma, been watching the ufc for about a year now, so i dont pretend to know much. But rapidly all my new found hero's are evaporating, the guys i was told are great when i was learning, are being beaten by guys i was told are average fighters, Cro cop, 2 defeats in the ufc, Chuck beaten twice in a row now, and griffin pounds out Shogun who i thought was pound for pound one of the best of his weight class. Im starting to think its not about skill, who you train with and dedication, its all about luck?? i mean who wants to watch a sport where the only thing that counts is luck?? I thought i found a sport that was the next big thing, and now im doubting that, please sumone tell me im wrong, i really love mma, but im starting to doubt this

UMMMM...

Isn't that the point? Nobody is indestructible and anyone CAN beat anyone else if they work hard and bring it. That's the whole point of fighting. WTF? Everyone just thinks certain people should never get beat?

This is good for MMA, that it why it is constantly evolving. You have to be on the top of your game.

Shogun is a great fighter, but maybe he needs to work his cardio a bit.

Liddell is a great striker, but maybe he needs to work some other things in his game and not depend on it.

Franklin is a great athlete, but maybe he needs to work on his clinch.

etc, etc, etc.

People saying their depressed and are going to go hang themselves need to calm down a bit. Jeez. Wake up, it's a contest and on any given day anyone can win. It's no different from any other sport. On football Sunday whenever a game starts, both teams have the potential to win.

I do see what you mean it seems that everyone trains hard and that any fight could go any way now. I believe that in half a year or so we will start seeing dominating fighters again (No im not talking about fedor)
He has a point (I like the Yankees analogy!). Sure they can train as hard as NFL players, but at that some point they're either already too late in their development to become elite fighters, or the simply don't have the talent/skill set to become an elite fighter. MMA is still evolving, but we will get there some day.

lol, I see no one talking about being depressed and hanging themselves. Don't try to start stuff like that.

I personally do not care who wins or who loses I love the sport.

What I am worried about is the casual fans who will not be able to follow. All the casual fan cares about is there favorite fighters. Just like Baseball fans only care about there favorite team. Once there favorite team (or fighter) starts losing they stop watching.

Why do I care about the casual fan, because they make up the majority of people who watch mma. Without them there will be no money in mma anymore, (I think this is simalar to what is happening in boxing right now)hence why I am worried about the future of mma.
