One of the world's best featherweight fighters will be out until 2018.

Chad Mendes has been suspended for two years by USADA after testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug in an out-of-competition sample May 17, the UFC's anti-doping partner announced Wednesday. The banned substance GHRP-6, also known as growth-hormone releasing hexapeptide, was found in Mendes' system.

Mendes, 31, won't be able to return to the UFC until June 10, 2018, two years from the date of the beginning of his provisional suspension.

Mendes (17-4) has been one of the UFC's best 145-pound fighters for the last five years. The Team Alpha Male product is coming off a knockout loss to Frankie Edgar in December. Mendes challenged former featherweight champion Jose Aldo in title fights on two occasions.

The California native owns victories over the likes of Ricardo Lamas, Clay Guida and Cub Swanson. In his most high-profile fight, he fell to Conor McGregor via second-round TKO in the main event of UFC 189 with the UFC's interim featherweight title on the line.

Its been said USADA is using a new test that can detect hgh and growth hormones 20 days after use.

That's how Mendes got caught.

With past tests hgh and growth hormones could only be detected a few hours or days.

HGH is used for a lot more then recovery. It helps maintain muscle and decrease fat. Dudes in their 40's are using it all over the place to try and stay young.
Of all the guys in the division aside from Aldo I would of bet on Mendes being on the juice. I think we all have to come around to the thinking that if it looks like a duck, its a duck. Mendes has a bodybuilder frame that just isn't natural for his size.
Saying that I did enjoy him fighting but I'd say he's done now, he has a side business in hunting he is focusing on. But I reckon he was mostly done anyway, when Frankie starts taking you out with one punch then you have problems. That was a real bad fight for him to take after all those shots he took from Conor.

Oh I see Sportswoman is quoting me again. I thought your period was over this month after you attacked Boatoar? Don't you realise I have you on ignore for the last year and have no interest in discussing anything with you?

But since you are so thirsty for a discussion with me here you go.

I have consistently said almost every fighter is on roids, and its obvious Brazil has had a problem with them. Long before I talked about Brazil I stated innumerate times that most fighters in the organisation were on steroids. I said Brock Lesnar was on roids before he got popped as to which 90% of the forum said 'no nothing to see here'. I have been the only forum member to consistently point out the problem and attack it from the beginning. Maybe one or two guys less vocal then me like Woodenhead are in agreement. The rest make excuses when their favourite fighters get popped.

The Aldo avoiding testing charade is clear as day to anyone with even the most meagre intelligence. Forget that all the Brazilians have lost their title except for one juiced up man beast that just got hers. Forget that all your hero's have gotten popped including the GOAT. Forget that steroids are available over the counter in Brazil. Forget that your country has a history in all sports of talking steroids across the most important world stars in sports much bigger then MMA. And bring up your favourite Irish Times article that shows one amateur non paid athlete playing for his local team that took some steroids in 10 years and try in vain to compare that to your countries problem.

I suggest not quoting me anymore, because Voiceless enjoys reprinting them for him own fun lol, unless this is the type of post you want to read over your samba flakes in the morning.

Yet you single out Brazil as a nation to have that problem (ok, when there's the opportunity also the evil Russians). You did not call out the USA as a nation to have that problem - there you talk about individual athletes, even though there are twice as many US athletes popped for PEDs than Brazilians and most of recent pops (i.e. Jones, Mendes, Lesnar) are US-Americans.

We are on the same page though about thinking that a large majority of MMA fighters in general have been using PEDs.

It says a lot about a fighter when he cheats. Mainly that he/she is a cheating lying scumbag. But to get busted in the mists of all the warnings and improved testing also makes them pretty fecking stupid.

Cheating lying stupid scumbags it is then.

Even the dudes that honestly consumed something they didn't know was in their "supplements" ... I have zero sympathy. I refuse to believe its really that difficult to avoid any substances until they have been confirmed clean and off any banned list. I dont think these fighters do anything more than read a label. Maybe ask somebody else in the gym if its ok. Beyond that, I dont think they do f*uck all to check. None of the legal substances have anywhere near the dramatic effect of the banned shit. So when somebody is making big advancements using a supplement, these fighters should know its something dodgy. Hard work is the only legal way to make big improvements in your game.

Lazy cheating lying stupid scumbags. They deserve the book. All of them.

Except Joel Romero of course.

But I agree with you now on the supplements issue. Maybe 18 months ago I would have had some sympathy or given a little leeway to a fighter with that excuse, but thinking about it now with all the media and the fact that this is their livelihood and how they make a living which can be taken away in the drop of a hat, these guys would have to be a special type of moron to take supplements that are in any way suspicious at all. Its simply not an excuse anymore. Don't take dodgy looking supplements in the GNC that say 'Test Boost" "Stack Beast" and 'Super Gigantic Gains Experiment Patent Pending Powder'
