I don't understand why you'd put Condit in against GSP for his return off of a loss, John? I do understand that you couldn't do it off of a win in this spot as that would be title challenger status for Condit had that happened, but I can't fathom the upside for GSP taking on a former title challenger coming off his second consecutive (albeit the first being controversial) defeat. Especially seeing how easy it still is to take down Condit. Not taking anything away from Maia's improved offensive wrestling game, but we're talking about GSP here. I'd rather see Condit fight a striker since he's clearly close to hanging them up.
That matchup is horrible for Carlos. No chance.
That being said, I like a lot of your other matchups listed. Well done on those. Not to derail the thread, but who do people think GSP should be matched up when he returns ? Let's assume he does and there's no 'if' involved.

Good points with regards to numbers, John. I just don't see it being anything but a fight against Woodley (which looks incredibly doubtful due to Wonderboy/Maia line) or Silva. Yes, Silva hasn't won in forever, but it's the super fight that never happened. It's lost it's lustre big time, but there are many folks that feel Silva beat Bisping and he's been given a pass for taking the Cormier fight.
It just won't be Condit. Sounds like he's hanging them up, anyway. We'll see if that's true.
Outside chance for Nick Diaz? Not too sure who wants to see that again, but I've heard minor buzz about it. Again, another 'numbers don't matter' fight. I know that's unfair considering what I said about Condit, but I feel their cases are different. There just wouldn't be any buzz for a 'I don't know if i belong here anymore' Carlos for the return of GSP. I'm not for the Diaz fight at all, though. I'd rather see Nick fight a striker at this stage of his career.
As far as GSP, I really don't know who I want to see him against. Silva? Not even that much anymore. That boat was missed. Watching Silva get taken down for 5 rounds again? Meh. No thanks.
Nah. Maia wants a chance at the belt more than anything. That is more important to him than to welcome a retired fighter who isn't sure what he wants next or who he wants.
And as Demian said, his age is a big factor he is even trying to get the shot before Wonderboy for that reason. He is 38 and with big mileage.
He is content in waiting for Woodley/Thompson and fight the winner, no more fight to risk his shot until there, and GSP would be a big risk.
If Maia has a chance at the belt and eventually becomes the champion, sure, who wouldn't want to see him vs GSP? Maybe for the belt.
Condit is probably contemplating retirement, hard to imagine any match ups that might interest him, I'm sure he wouldn't mind having a title shot, but lets be real here. Fighting GSP however, is a win-win, he probably gets a good payday, no shame in losing to GSP, especially when you're on the verge of retirement, BUT, if you end up winning, good chance you get another shot.
You could argue GSP deserves the instant title shot, but to be honest, I'm not really excited seeing that, I'd rather see Wonderboy and Maia getting title fights first, and GSP have a tune up fight with Condit. Although GSP-Lawler would be more fun imo.
Ill be honest with you I wouldn't be surprised if Condit retires. Since 2012 he is 3-5 in the UFC. I think hes tired. Tired of the wars. The Lawler fight could of gone either way. GSP held him down and wrestle ****ed him after Carlos rocked him. Hendricks took him down and held him too. I think hes tired and frustrated. He wants to stand and fight and nobody will do that which is funny since he laid the blue print for fighting the Diaz brothers which has frustrated them because they say people wont stand and fight with them. The difference of course being the Diaz's ground game.
