Ken Shamrock
Ken Shamrock was a pioneer for MMA. He spread popularity for the sport in Japan, U.S., and other areas. He was originally a street brawler from the California area, but eventually become a very successful person. He ran away from his home, then got arrested, then went to many foster homes before going in to Bob Shamrock's home, who eventually adopted him and Frank Shamrock. He spent time at pool holes, being a stripper, etc. He wanted to go in to wrestling or pro football. He tried many things, even went in to the Navy Seals. Somehow one day he heard about some event called the UFC... lol, that's his story anyhow, he was one of the greatest UFC fighters, and is very underrated now. He is perhaps even better than he was ever before even though he is 42 since he has evolved his game and tried and learned many new styles.

Ken is a can and always has been. All he is doing now is hurting his own fans. Why fight tito again? If you win what did you accomplish? Ken should have never come back after the WWF. But that is my opinion. But i give him some respect. Because he does get in the cage and try to fight.

Randy Couture was far more dominant at the age of 40 then Ken by far. Ken Shamrocks early accomplishments are great but he can't do these kneebars and heel hooks like he used to in MMa nowadays. Thats the main reason he gets pounded. But he is one of the greatest, Royce is greater in my opinion for the UFC though.

On another note... why is it that no one ever does a knee bar anymore?? They're' one of the coolest submisions. The same with heel hooks. Heel hooks always seem to be there, yet they're hardly ever atempted anymore. Anyone?
|
They aren't attempted anymore because they are pointless and so easy to get out of as we saw Franklin get out of Shamrocks leg lock no problem. They are once in a while attempted and done as we saw Sylvia tap to Arlovski to an achilles lock and Mir do a foot lock on Abbott.
|
They are defenitly not pointless as unforgiven stated, the problem with goin on heel hooks and kneebars is that you risk givin up your position. You are usually on top when goin for these and if you miss youre usually on the bottom, why risk it

I know a great knee-bar from the back, if you take someones back and they are immediatly defending the rear naked then you have a perfect oppurtunity to fool them and go for the knee bar instead, |
