i think if you train with a pretty bad injury, and fight with one, then you have only yourself to blame. certainly, doing so makes one exempt from using that injury as an excuse, like so many fighters do. "oh, i'm not using it as an excuse, but i'm just sayin'..."

and if you do train or fight injured, how long do you think that will benefit you? if you keep healthy and train well, you can fight for a long long long time. no need to stress your body now and retire when your 35.

be smart and train your ass off when you are healthy, not when your injured. training isn't the same as physical therapy!

This is a job like anything else and not many of these guys can afford not to get paid, they have not only themselves to support but often they need to provide for their families. I'm not saying it's right, but it put a fighter like Hermes Franca in a position to either get nothing at all or take roids and fight Sean Sherk for the title.

Ultimately, it is up to the fighters, but in some ways this sport breeds guys to fight hurt.
very true. and if Dana was really in this for the sport of it all, not to make a quick buck off these guys knuckles, he'd do something to ensure a standard for all his fighters and ensure health care.
