UFC is the superbowl of mma? hmm...
So i guess everyone has heard that semi-famous quote that Dana White said : ufc is the superbowl of mma.. or something to that effect. That got me to thinking about all the fighters id like to see more often or guys that seem to have been forgotten by the UFC, and even those who fought a lot recently,
im making a short story long but basically i was thinking of how it seems that most people would like to see fighters fight more often. Recently im seeing what happened to " fill in the blank, fighter who hasnt fought in 8+months"
So why not have tournaments? Once or twice a year, maybe limit the fights to only contenders, or maybe not, either way those bugs could be worked out, let the guys fight 2-3 times in a night similar to pride, then have the next UFC-# be the top against the top in the tourney for instance.
Pair lets say 4-6 from each weight class, have the winner fight winner and loser fight loser, make it short, like only 2 rounds, 5min for instance.

hommage don't say things when your facts are wrong. Tournaments are allowed by commisions and they coudl also host a tournament in Texas or another state without a commision but Dana is against the idea of tournaments so it won't happen.

Dana himself said the commisions won't allow them and for good reason thats dangerous. They have too many fighters to have one night tourny's anyway.

he's a moron. the UFC is like the Major Leagues, but the closest equivelant of the Superbowl would have been the final event of the PRIDE Grand Prix!
which we'll never see again...

i don't see why the ufc can't do a tournament over the course of a few months. it'd be like tuf tournaments, but around a month between each fight and no reality tv.

So the UFC isn't the world's largest MMA organization and the best place to fight because they don't have tournaments?
I could go off into a whole rant, but I won't waste my time.

Which sucks, because those Pride Grand Prix's were pretty awesome. Pretty much all of them have some great moments, from Sakuraba & Gracie touching each other for 7 hours to Coleman being awesome and falling. Man, I miss those, I really do. The 03 & 04 GP's were pretty much the most awesome tournaments ever.
I also sort of liked the idea of a MW fighting a SHW, or a LHW fighting a HW. It was odd, but yet, it was something different. Watching Mirko crush Minowa was pretty awesome, but then you realize it's Minowa.
Sergei being awesome.
Rampage becoming a star.
Wanderlei killing fools.
Yoshida surviving a Wandy beating.
Chuck Liddell whomping the foundation off Overeem's face.
Nogueira, anaconda, nuff said.
Freakin' Shogun killing dudes.
Fedor exposing Ogawa.
Cro Cop killing Wandy and smashing Barnett in the same night
Too many awesome moments.

I'd say something, but not many threads where Damone post and there is much to say after him.
