Sam Stout Possibly Back For UFC 78

The Fight Network is reporting that its sources have indicated Sam Stout could return to the UFC as early as Nov. 17 and make an appearance at UFC 78 in Newark, NJ.

Stout, who has not fought since losing to Spencer Fisher at UFC Fight Night 10, has been trying to fight his way back onto a major show by keeping busy on regional shows. He boosted his stock with a first round TKO over Martin Grandmont for the fight promotion TKO at the Bell Centre this past Saturday in Montreal, Canada.

Stout’s inclusion on the UFC 78 card is far from official and no potential opponents were mentioned. However, it looks like the rivalry between Fisher (who is scheduled to fight Frankie Edgar at UFC 78) and Stout is inevitable to become a trilogy:

Right after my last match with Spencer [Fisher], Dana [White] told me that if they ever have a problem finding an opponent for me they’ve always got Stout-Fisher III in their back pocket,” says Stout. “I’m hoping to be back in the Octagon some time before the end of the year.”

I can't wait to see Stout back. That dude's got a granite chin and can throw some badass leather. He matches up well with almost everyone. I think Huerta would be a good matchup for him, if the Guida rumours aren't true or something happens to that fight. I dunno, Huerta/Stout just sounds awesome, and it needs to happen. OR, if something unfortunate happens to Edgar (definately don't WANT anything to happen), but at least we will still get to see another FOTY slugfest in Fischer/Stout III.

whoa good ol canadian boi

The most solid advice I can give to anyone who fights BJ Penn not motivate the guy. Lets face it, BJ although talented, is naturally lazy. Your job is to NOT convince him to step on that treadmill.

I would love to see Stout welcome a newcomer to the Octagon. I'm not saying give the guy a sure thing, but he is 22 and has only fought top 5 guys in Fisher and Florian... Guys like Huerta have been built up by fighting all newcomers... Let the guy build his stock by giving him a fight he has a chance of really putting on a show, and winning. If they do Stout vs. Fisher III and Stout loses again he will be spending even more time in the minor leagues.

I love watching Stout fight just because he loves to bang...and you gotta like that in a fighter. Should have some interesting match ups with him and the current LW mix of fighters.

I'm not sure how quickly I'd like see Stout/Fisher III, anyway. Sure, it's guaranteed to be a fight of the night on any card, and a possible fight of the year candidate, but it's too close to their second fight. I'd like to see some establishment from Stout first, possibly against guys like Doug Evans, Leonard Garcia, and Cole Miller.

Thanks for posting this, WouldLuv. I love watching this guy fight.

I dig Stout. Sure, his ground game sucks, but the guy is exciting. His fights with Fisher ruled, and I think he'd bring the fun with the right opponent. Huerta, as mentioned, would be a good opponent. Huerta would fight a solid LW and Stout would face a game opponent.

Nice to see that he'll be back. Just keep him far, far away from ground fighters. Like, he can fight Spence forever if he had to. Damn, I sort of wish Thomson was in the UFC, because Stout vs Thomson would rule.

Leonard Garcia would be a good match for where both guys are at in there career. Would be entertaining to. Two guys punching eachother with amazing chins, although Garcia does have a ground game.

1. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira
2. Nate Marquardt
3. Goran Reljic
4. Amir Saddolah
