Rich Clementi: I’m Fighting Melvin Guillard at UFC 79
After serving a nine-month suspension due to a failed UFC Fight Night 9 drug test, “The Ultimate Fighter 2’s” Melvin Guillard (20-6-2 MMA, 3-2 UFC) will return to the UFC to take on fellow cast member Rich Clementi (26-12-1 MMA, 3-3 UFC).
Clementi recently confirmed that he’ll fight his rival at UFC 79, reports Sam Caplan of fiveouncesofpain.com.
UFC 79 takes place Dec. 29 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.
Back in April, the Nevada State Athletic Commission announced that Guillard had tested positive for cocaine and had been issued a $2,100 fine and nine-month suspension. At the time, Guillard admitted to using cocaine six days prior to his April 5 main event and that he expected the drug to be out of his system in time for his fight.
The failed test capped off what had already been an embarrassing series of events for the once-promising lightweight. Prior to the UFC Fight Night 9 bout, Guillard accused Stevenson of being a human-growth-hormone user — an accusation he was later forced to retract. Then, in their nationally televised headline bout, Stevenson submitted Guillard with a guillotine choke in just 27 seconds.
He’ll now take on Clementi, a longtime MMA veteran who defeated Anthony Johnson at UFC 76 last month.
There’s actually some bad blood between Guillard and Clementi, which surely prompted the fight’s official booking. Back in February, MMAjunkie.com reported that Guillard sucker punched UFC fighter Rich Clementi during a regional MMA show after the two fighters got in a heated email exchange.
Clementi, a cast member from “The Ultimate Fighter 4,” faces Antoine Skinner (16-5-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) this weekend at a show promoted by his own fight company, No Love Entertainment.
