Cris cyborg flagged for anti-doping violation

Quote:
Cris “Cyborg” Justino on Thursday found herself once again at the center of controversy, as she was flagged by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency for a potential UFC Anti-Doping Policy violation.

“The UFC organization was formally notified (on Thursday) that the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) has informed Cristiane ‘Cyborg’ Justino of a potential Anti-Doping Policy violation stemming from an out-of-competition sample collection on December 5, 2016,” UFC officials said in a statement released to MMAWeekly.com.

“USADA, the independent administrator of the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, will handle the results management and appropriate adjudication of this case. It is important to note that, under the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, there is a full fair legal review process that is afforded to all athletes before any sanctions are imposed.”

There had already been a firestorm surrounding Cyborg recently, as she was in conflict with UFC president Dana White over having turned down the opportunity to compete in the inaugural UFC women’s featherweight championship. Cyborg admitted to turning down specific dates for the fight, but insisted that she would be ready to compete again by March. The UFC was unwilling to wait that long, and instead matched former bantamweight champion Holly Holm against Germaine de Randamie for the promotion’s first women’s featherweight title tilt.

With an anti-doping sanction now looming, it appears that it may be even longer before Cyborg might realize her longtime dream of fighting in the Octagon in her chosen weight class.

According to policy, the specific substance Cyborg tested positive for has not been released.

This news comes a little over a week after Cyborg took Dana White and the UFC to task for not including her in the inaugural UFC women's Featherweight Title bout scheduled for UFC 208.

White maintains he gave Cyborg two opportunities to compete in this fight, but she declined. Cyborg says she asked for a later date, but wasn't granted her request.

There will be some speculation as to whether the UFC knew about Cyborg's impending suspension, or if the decision to pit Holly Holm and Germaine de Randamie was a product of the two sides working on different schedules.

Statement from Cyborgs Rep.

One thing we don’t have to assume though, is if it was steroids. That’s because longtime Cris Cyborg rep and boyfriend Ray Elbe just released this statement on the popular MMA forums of The Underground:

“Not for a steroid, and she has a prescription as part of the post fight therapy she’s been receiving due to the severe weight cut.

This has been known for a few days, and Cris doctor has been in direct contact with USADA turning over all the necessary patient files to document the reasons Cris needs the medication.”

Goddamnit everyone is taking my lines before I can post them!!

Interesting that Mike Winklejohn said the other day the reason should couldn't make weight is because she was powerlifting.

So thats most likely her done for 2 years, and the glaring stain on the sport of MMA will be out of the picture. I wonder whats Sportsperson1.2 will make of all this.

The upside is now she can go where she belongs. Post apocalyptic nuclear fallout movies.

At least we know the excuses is not going to be boner enhancement pills. I've just noticed someone's got there first

I'm glad she got busted, she made such a mockery of the whole drug issue, to all intents and purpose she has a man's physique, fighting women. A lot of the mob and the MMA media, never seem that bothered as long as they got their dose of brutality.

Apparently, it was spironolactone, which is a diuretic. Allegedly, it was for her kidney problems and blood pressure. Because using a diuretic to drain water out of your body is totally great for your kidneys and blood pressure.

More like using it to flush steroid metabolites out of her system. There's a reason she wanted more turnaround time for her fight.
