Chael on Ronda's skills: 'It's not real, it was media fixation, they created that'

Good insights/perspective from Chael.

The only thing true about what chael says, is that the media started asking questions about could she beat a man, floyd this kind of nonsense. And that was very clever PR probably started by the UFC that sold PPV's and made her extra cool to women around the world and helped grow her fan base.

Everything else is nonsense. Ronda cleaned our her division completely, with a ruthless and skillful ease. She has the best armbars of any fighter in the history of the sport. She beat solid competitors - in a few seconds she beat a girl who finished the current champion.

The game has evolved and she is no longer what she was but its pure bullshit for chael to say her skills were a fiction created by the media. Her hype in the end might of been but she earned that hype dispatching her whole division with ease and essentially creating a sport out of nothing, or at least bringing eyes to it that were never there before.
With a proper camp and not the circus act Edmund she probably would not have suffered such a defeat against holly. She might not have beat her but she would not have fought the worst tactical fight that I can remember in MMA and not suffered that vicious head kick finish which Im sure has psychologically seriously damaged her. We only need to look at Bisping when he fought Hendo again to understand how such a KO can affect a fighter long term.

*sigh* ... another idiot trying to be clever in hindsight.

Nobody was saying any of this shit a year ago before the Holly fight. Suddenly all these mic fiddlers have all the insight. If her skills are as ordinary as these muppets make out, surely such skilled analysts with supposed deep knowledge would have spotted it well before the Holm fight.

Its the same across all sports. Journos wetting their knickers with every winning run, only to nonchalantly claim it was nothing special the moment said winning run ends. A team/athlete that was unbeatable last week is suddenly fragile at the first whiff of loss.

I miss the days when there was 100x less sports coverage, but what was there was 100x more insightful.

Yes I prefer the days without all the TMZ and desk anaylsis and fox and espn and media outlets etc. It's all tiresomely boring and stupid. But her skills are clearly ordinary outside of armbar technique and judo throws. Anyone with a brain knew she couldnt strike at all (except against equally awful strikers like tate or bethe) or that she has no double leg or greco roman game. This is still the dark ages of wmma talent, a few more well rounded ticks above say ufc 30 talent.

Thats what makes them all look so stupid. Here we are; posters on an MMA forum. Quite a few people here questioned Rondas striking skill while she was tearing the division down. None of us analyse MMA full time. We don't get paid to do it. And yet, these dudes whos job it is to talk MMA cant make a simple non-kneejerk observation. Everything is either the coming of the messiah or total shite, with very little grey area.

Still, cant blame them entirely. Unfortunately, the average sports fan loves all the sensationalism. So I guess this type of "reporting" isn't going anywhere.

I agree that she beat a bunch cans and got lucky vs Cat. Cat should of beat the brakes of her but she just ran at her like a kid on the schoolyard.

The standard of women's MMA is dreadful and Ronda dominated a bunch of tomato cans, then she lost. Doesn't mean her skills aren't legit but she's not well rounded at all and the signs were there even in some of the fights she did win.

Dana White saying these female fighters are beasts shouldn't convince anyone. He also said Philipe Nova was the next Anderson Silva, he hypes everything that isn't called Roy Nelson. The talent pool in female MMA is so shallow that an elite judoka was able to look invincible and she was lifted up nice and high for an almighty fall. And now we're stuck having to watch these girls, very few of whom have legit high level MMA skill. Thanks Dana.

Same with Fedor. He beat a bunch of cans except those ones that werent cans, and in those situations it was luck.

The thing is Zingano KO'd Nunez, and Ronda dispatched her in seconds. Neither of those girls are tomato cans for sure.

Because Ronda fought so poorly against Holly and had such a disaster against Nunez people are saying she was never that good. Thats just not true - Context of her trainer needs to be consider who told her to rush in and box a world champion counter puncher, and then try and box another girl with far superior boxing.
Damian Maia looked crap when he tried to stand up against stand up fighters, and then he copped on after how many defeats - 4-5? and went back to what he was good at and dominated again. Ronda could very well do the same thing if she got her head straight and proper trainers. Greg Jackson could work wonders Im sure with her. She is easily the best in any womens division at submissions. That has not gone away.
