I think Hughes will take this to the ground, there is a championship on the line and Hughes know what it takes to win a title.

Seriously I was going to try to answer each but there are too many already . Like most I give the ground advantage Hughes and the standup advantage Sera. Both IMO are close enough that the fight will be interesting. I think Sera's jiu jitsu is very good. He is also physically well muscled and strong (look at that tree trunk neck), and the combination will make him hard to just manhandle on the ground. But do feel Hughes is physically even stronger, and with close enough jiu jitsu and better wrestling, have to give Hughes the edge down there.

Overall, if I had to bet, I'd bet on Matt Hughes like the majority here, but it's going to be close because I agree with Lotus669 that Sera is underrated. I know I can't wait to see this fight .

thanks for agreeing on him being overrated so damn true, what really annoys me is to say he won with a lucky punch.... If I counted correctly he landed a good 20 - 30 shots on GSP's face in that fight; Be they hammer fists, or straights, or hooks. Sorry teachbug but Serra beat GSP ass whether you like it or not boy calling him a lucky puncher or a fluke or whatever you think or would like to say is remedial and shows the lack of respect for a win.

The lucky punch I refer to is the one that knocked him down.
All the other ones were normal punches and would and could have been shook off.
It WAS a lucky punch, and it doesn't show disrespect for anything, it just is what it is, a LUCKY punch, everything after that was just extra.
They were trading blow for blow, and no one had the upper hand UNTIL the lucky punch, and I'm sorry if you don't agree, but thats just how it is Lotus.
No one believed serra had a bats chance in hell of beating GSP, so yeah "fluke" is another great word to describe it.

I do think GSP was off his game that night. Didn't seem to know if he wanted to fight on the outside or inside, he just looked a little lost out there, and when Sera hit him GSP was probably thinking he was safely on the outside. GSP lost that fight in large part due to his own lack of preparation mentally, and Sera was mentally there to take advantage of that. Calling it luck I think is not the right word, other than maybe to say that it was lucky for Sera that GSP was so off his game that night, that was fortunate for Sera. Won't really be able to predict a rematch til we at least see Hughes vs. Sera, or should I say, "Matt vs. Matt" . I like Sera but I do know GSP is on the angry road back so Sera better prepare.

gsp also looked dry comming in there

perhaps he needed some last minute cutting

(im not excuses just inserting my 2 cents)

The most solid advice I can give to anyone who fights BJ Penn is...do not motivate the guy. Lets face it, BJ although talented, is naturally lazy. Your job is to NOT convince him to step on that treadmill.

Matt Serra has a way better shot at winning this..first off..MS is very hard to take down..once on his back serra can sweet or submit..hes not a jiu jitsu world champ for no reason. and on the feet..serra clearly has the advantage..

Serra wins.ground or standing
