The chances of Rose Namajunas getting the winner of UFC 211’s strawweight title fight between Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Jessica Andrade are looking good.

It sounds like Rose Namajunas is on the edge of getting a title shot after her impressive win over Michelle Waterson at UFC on FOX 24.

Current women's strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk is set to face off with Jessica Andrade at UFC 211 on May 18th in Dallas, Texas. Whoever ends up leaving the American Airlines Center with the 115 pound belt could have a quick turnaround against "Thug" Rose based on what Dana White told reporters in Kansas City.

“She looked amazing tonight,” he said. “She put on the performance of a lifetime. Lot of hype behind the ‘Karate Hottie’ after her last victory over Paige VanZant and [Rose] came out and did what she had to do to solidify herself."

"Rose went back to the drawing board, and she looked amazing tonight. She thinks she’s ready for a title, and I agree with her after tonight’s performance.”

As for Rose, she seemed okay with whatever the UFC decided was next for her, title shot or not. So long as she gets a title shot sometime in 2017.

"I changed all my email and computer passwords to ‘Andnew2017’ so that’s kinda just what I have in mind, that general goal," she said with a laugh at the post-fight presser. "So sometime before the year is over with but I don’t want to put no specific stamp on it just yet.”

We'll have to wait and see whether the winner of Joanna Jedrzejczyk vs. Jessica Andrade at UFC 211 comes out of her fight without any injuries. If everything lines up, Namajunas could get a title shot soon enough to change her passwords again, this time to 'AndStill2017.'

Awesome.

I thought Rose had the most impressive showing on the entire card.

Yeah. It seems like Rose trains with a lot of different people & that could be how she's learned & improved so much? Awhile ago she was training at jacksonwink, then later she trained with Valentina Shevchenko.

Looked like a straight up killah.

To be fair Michelle Waterson was the next hot prospect and probably would've gotten said title shot had she beat Rose Namajunas. Namajunas on the other hand has won four of her last five fights against top members of the UFC strawweight division with her only loss coming to title challenger Karolina Kowalkiewicz. Question is can Thug Rose solve the conundrum of Joanna's take down defense and her insane cardio level kickboxing and striking ratios.

I'm interested to see the stand up, but I don't think Rose has the wrestling to take JJ down and I think JJ will just outclass her on the feet like she does everyone else. All the flashy kicks and spins and will probably just get shut down by stiff jabs and pressure. Rose hasn't really fought anyone who will put pressure on her like JJ does, it's why so many girls struggle against JJ, that constant pressure.

Yeah if we are honest Joanna is number two pound for pound in the world right now after Demetrious Johnson. There probably is someone who can beat her but it's just a matter of that woman coming forward. We know she lost to Bullet Valentina but that was in kickboxing.

I would pick Rose to defeat Joanna.

If Rose could solve her cardio problem.

Rose looked completely different in her fight with Michelle Waterson than she did when she fought Karolina Kowalkiewicz.

She looked better & much improved everywhere.

#8 ·
Yeah but can she solve Joanna's take down defense cause for someone who comes from a kickboxing background she has extremely good take down defense. Not to mention she's big for the weight class which makes strength an issue. If Thug Rose can work on her take downs good enough and also get past Joanna's high volume punches she can take her down and win.

I have Rose winning a fight with Joanna standing.

Joanna's cardio is probably the best advantage she has over Rose, but even that isn't as good as it used to be now that Joanna is training in the united states @ american top team, eating american food that is almost deliberately designed to destroy pplz health.

Rose is not winning a fight standing unless Joanna's skills have completely shit the bed since moving to ATT. There's still too many gaps in her stance and striking that Joanna can exploit, her lead leg is wide open for low kicks and her body is there to be front kicked. She's still going to lose trading hands with Joanna since she's not as crisp and isn't as good at adjusting her combos. Her clinch defence is improving but Joanna still has a sizable advantage there.

As for nutrition, Joanna has a nutritionist, she's not chowing down on junk food and getting fat like Johny Hendricks.

I agree that she'd likely be better with her old team, but it is what it is.

.......

It just sounds like you're making stuff up. Joanna isn't someone who throws a lot of leg kicks or front kicks. If Rose was open to those things, which she is not, it wouldn't even matter.

There are a lot of things "nutritionists" don't know. The medical and health field is similar to the computer/IT field where knowledge that is only a few years old can be made obsolete very quickly.

I agree, Joanna's striking is far too good even for the improvements that Thug Rose has made over the past few years. The only way that Rose wins this fight is if she can take it to the ground and I really don't know if she can considering her take down defense. Honestly I feel that the only person that can defeat Joanna is either a strong wrestler (I'm making a prediction that TUF winner Tatiana Padilla Suarez is that girl) or a fellow kick boxer like her but who I have no idea.
Rose's striking hasn't improved much over the last few year. Over the last 5-6 months or so, her* stand up has improved A LOT tho.

Joanna's kickboxing is a bit overrated imo. She struggled with Valerie Letourneau. It took her like 3 rounds to finish Jessica Penne.

Joanna has never blown through anyone as good as Michelle Waterson, the way Thug Rose did.

I agree that her fight with Valerie was a close fight but she did finish Penne unlike several other fighters she's gone the distance with. Though like I said Rose's striking is nowhere near on pare with Joanna's and her take down ability is not all that good either. The take down that ended the fight against Michelle was because of a kick that rocked the Karate Hottie.

Technically, I think Rose's striking is better than Joanna's. Rose sets up her shots better & her movement is better. Rose's punching technique might also be better at this point in time.

Joanna is someone who wins their fights more on cardio & intensity than being ultra sound from a kickboxing perspective.

I dont like rose and hope she gets smashed. I agree with another poster saying JJ isnt that godo standing she is just a good worker and cardio fighter.

#18 ·
My two favorite straw-weights so this is tough. Rose has clearly improved in all areas of the sport. Her ground game might now be to the level she can put Joanna in some trouble. Very impressed with the way she took Waterson's back from a headlock. Plus her length will be a challenge on the feet. For now, slight edge to Joanna.

Rose had better counters and set ups against Michelle such as reversing ground position and that kick that essentially spelled the beginning of the end for the fight. And yeah cutting angles and all that did pretty good as well. I'm still not sure that Rose is good enough at take downs to get Joanna to the ground and I still think that's where she can beat her.

I don't know.

Vague terms like "iron chin" and "zombie" might be explainable in terms of people having higher than average bone density, good brain plasticity or other biological factors.

In some cases, it means they're being punched in the face by someone who doesn't know how to throw a punch properly. They have an "iron chin" until they come across someone who can punch properly they they get KO'ed.

I think being born and raised in a country with clean air, water and healthy food could be a big advantage. Some of that might explain how John Lineker and Jessica Andrade can do what they do.

There is a lot of potential for expanding knowledge on those subjects.

#28 ·
Well by that reasoning of clean air and good food in countries other then the United States Demetrious Johnson, Cody Garbrandt, Tyron Woodley, Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic shoul dnot be champions. Good training and technique plays a role in a fighters performance. I do agree that diet plays a role as well but in the US fighters have better access to good foods and nutritionists.

For the woman's 115 lb division, Joanna, Jessica Andrade and Karolina probably have the best cardio. The second Joanna began to train in the united states at american top team and eat american food is the second her cardio started to look bad--in her fight with Karolina. I think that's the difference.

Demetrious Johnson & all those other names you mentioned, at least some of those guys eat healthy. Maybe it all balances out as men tend to be egotistical about what they eat. Like Conor being egotistical and trying to eat steaks in his 1st fight against Nate Diaz. Even if that's not necessarily the best thing to eat before a fight.

American food is just plain bad. Maybe the most unhealthy food in the entire world.

Processed sugar and aspartame. These are known to be major causes of obesity and poor health issues ranging from obesity to upticks in diabetes, depression, high blood pressure and worse.

Foreign countries like brazil don't have ridiculous sums of processed sugar in everything the way the united states does. They have more healthy natural sweeteners like stevia. Chael Sonnen might make fun of brazil but they likely have healthier food and better health standards than the united states does.

This is a big part of the reason why america has an obesity epidemic and other countries do not. Its also a big part of the reason the united states on average has more nutrition based illness and disease than more or less any other nation on earth.

When I say food in the united states is almost deliberately engineered to ruin peoples health, that isn't an exaggeration btw.

Basic example:

Energy drinks the cause of many sudden cardiac deaths in young people, researchers find

An international research team, led by Dr. Fabian Sanchis-Gomar of Madrid, Spain, has concluded that energy drinks are the cause of many sudden cardiac deaths in young, healthy individuals.

The main concern is that these beverages can easily aggravate underlying heart issues. Because of their high amounts of caffeine and sugar, dangerous arrhythmias can easily develop in the hearts of young people who drink them.

Many people already balk at the high amounts of labeled caffeine on these drinks. The problem is that there are many additional sources of caffeine that are “masked” by the labeling.

"Masked" caffeine
Ingredients such as guarana, ginseng, and taurine have caffeine concentrations that are equal to, or higher than, caffeine found in coffee. Ingesting high doses of any of these substances can be very dangerous.

Roughly 31% of adolescents from ages 12 to 19 consume energy drinks on a regular basis. An even higher number of people use alternatives to these beverages, such as gums or inhalers. The high amounts of caffeine in all of these products is causing serious harm, the study found. Of the 5,448 caffeine overdoses reported in the United States in 2007, 46% of them occurred in people under the age of 19. The question is, how can we halt this trend of overconsumption by young people?

There are other ways in which food in the united states destroys peoples health.

One thing to note is, there are many "nutritionists", "doctors" and "medical experts" who don't know this stuff.

Watching UFC embeddeds, I might have seen UFC fighters and their nutritionists make a lot of basic mistakes.

Joanna made some basic mistakes in the embeddeds leading up to her fight with Karolina.

Anthony Pettis might have made a few leading up to his fight with RDA.

There could be a lot of room for improvement as far as "nutritionists" go.

I agree that American food is bad but my understanding is that the current fattest nation in the world while it used to be the United States is now actually our southern neighbors aka Mexico, because of all those beans and rice. Though I do agree that there are basic mistakes made. Also I agree on the sugar part cause believe it or not when I eat apple sauce I don't get the diet or fat free version I get the natural unsweetened stuff because while it has the exact same amount of calories as the diet stuff it has more nutrition.

America isn't a candidate for the worst food, only due to sugar. There are also GMO's, growth hormones like rbgh which are all illegal & banned in european and other foreign countries for being carcinogenic health hazards. Some american food products are now processed in china, which has no FDA oversight or regulation. They're also pushing to have US pork and other food products moved under china's jurisdiction. If you know china's history, they have been exporting toxic products into the united states for a long time now. It was funny when it was just melamine & people joked about it, but over the years its been confirmed a lot of things imported from china are toxic/contaminated.

There's a long list of ways food eaten in the united states on a daily basis is almost specifically designed to destroy peoples health. Even professional athletes fall victim & many nutritionists are unaware of hazards--like energy drinks which are actually killing people.

US healthcare was ranked in the 30's as far as affordability goes. They stopped ranking healthcare so the US would stop embarrasing itself.

Not only is US healthcare bad, US food is bad also. A lot of things in the US are terribad. It shows in the way young people are starting to get cancer, arthritis, diabetes and a host of illnesses that historically mainly affected older people.

I'm not sure about mexico but that is a good point. Some of mexico's food supply, like corn, might have been contaminated by GMO's planted nearby.

I don't get why we're pushing Joanna's TDD to the moon. Against Gadelha she didn't look like a master at the wrestling. Has she even faced a wrestler or grappler outside of Esparza besides Gadelha?

Although I agree, Rose probably can't get it down. JJ isn't unbeatable, she makes some mistakes, but I think he'll probably be slightly too sharp for Rose.

#37 ·
To be perfectly honest I think Tatiana Padilla Suarez has the potential to beat her. She needs to work on her striking to where she could set up a take down against Joanna but I think once she's mastered that she can defeat Joanna. JJ has never faced an elite level wrestler and Tatiana is a world champion and was in line for the Olympics 2012 Olympics before she got cancer.

#38 ·
Joanna will most likely slash up Rose's face with them elbows. Thug has a good chance of pooring it on in the first three, possibly taking the champ's back. However, if it goes to the later rounds, Joanna will dominate like she always does. These are my favorite two athletes in the division atm, but I'm heavily biased towards Joanna's style.

#39 ·
I agree that Joanna is likely to win in the latter rounds mainly because she's just got the better cardio and I don't believe that what people are saying about her cardio going down is a little exaggerated. Rose needs to somehow take the fight to the mat and I'm not sure if her flying arm bar will work against Joanna. Depends on how the fight goes.

#41 ·
I'm of that same opinion. As I've been saying Joanna has good take down defense against wrestlers who aren't spectacular and so far no one has been able to do that. Rose might be able to take her to the ground but I believe that the only one that can truly take her down is Tatiana Suarez.
