Am I just far behind, or is the LHW division empty?

I was watching two guys, ranked 5 and 7, fight today and I have absolutely no idea who either guy is. So, I go to the LHW rankings on UFC.com, and Shogun is ranked #4, Corey Anderson at #6, and Ilir Latifi is at #9. Who the hell is Ilir Latifi?

It has Cormier, Alex, Glover, Jimi and Jones... assuming Jones doesn't get suspended again. Am I just not caught up on these guys, or is LHW extremely shallow right now?

No, not just you.

A lot of LHW gatekeepers got bumped into top 10 because of

1) UFC getting stupid and Bellator sniping top LHW talent like Davis and Bader
2) AJ retiring and Jones not being officially listed because of the suspension
3) In general with more and more women and little guy divisions, there are fewer and fewer fights per card remaining for the higher weights, so there is less exposure for the upcoming guys in these divisions compared to before.

A lot of old men. I mean people were saying the same thing when JBJ was destroying old Brazilians every other month. LHW is a joke and HW isn't much better.

MMA is going through the same phase boxing went through after Ali, no heavy guys of note, so the lighter classes are getting their time in the sun. It'll come back around.

It's not that bad, we've got 40+ guys it's going to take a while to get to know all the new guys.

(C) - Daniel Cormier
(1) - Jon Jones
(2) - Alexander Gustafsson
(3) - Anthony Johnson (he comes back)
(4) - Jimi Manuwa
(5) - Volkan Oezdemir
(6) - Shogun Rua

Volkan vs Manuwa is going to be the next likely title eliminator. This is the elite group, the established top ten.

(7) - Misha Cirkunov
(8) - Glover Teixiera
(9) - Corey Anderson
(10) - Ovince St. Preux
(11) - Tyson Pedro
(12) - Illir Latifi
(13) - Little Nog
(14) - Gadzhimurad Antigulov
(15) - Gian Villante
(16) - Patrick Cummins
(17) - Steve Bosse
(18) - Marcel Fortuna

(19) - Jan Blachowicz
(20) - Jared Cannonier
(21) - Azamat Murzakanov
(22) - Jordan Johnson
(23) - John Phillips

This is the prospects and gatekeepers line, the meat and potatos of the division. Tyson Pedro, Gadzhimurad, and Misha are all possible future contenders. You've also got the older semi-retired guys in Little Nog and Glover.

(24) - Francimar Barroso
(25) - Marcos Rogério de Lima
(26) - Ed Herman
(27) - CB Dolloway
(28) - Devin Clark
(29) - Khalil Roundtree
(30) - Luis Henrique da Silva
(31) - Paul Craig
(32) - Josh Stansbury
(33) - Jake Collier
(34) - Ion Cutelaba
(35) - Saparbek Safarov
(36) - Gokhan Saki
(37) - Aleksandar Rakic

This is the divisional filler, most of them are "fun" to watch the UFC might book Roundtree/Saki is a FOTY possibility.

(38) - Jonathan Wilson
(39) - Joachim Christensen
(40) - Jeremy Kimball
(41) - Darren Stewart
(42) - Igor Pokrajac
(43) - Bojan Mihajlović

And these are the likely cut guys but we'll see you never really know.
