With just over a week to go before UFC 213 in Las Vegas, welterweight contender Donald Cerrone has withdrawn from his highly-anticipated matchup with Robbie Lawler due to an undisclosed injury. MMA Fighting reported the news on Wednesday.

This appears to be the first time that Cerrone (32-8, 1 NC) has ever pulled out of a scheduled fight because of an injury. “Cowboy” is looking to bounce back from a TKO loss to Jorge Masvidal at UFC on FOX 24 in January. The defeat put an end to the former UFC lightweight title challenger’s undefeated record at 170 lbs. He made the decision to change weight classes following his TKO to then-champion Rafael dos Anjos in December 2015.

Lawler (27-11, 1 NC) hasn’t fought since Tyron Woodley knocked him out at UFC 201. The first-round blowout loss marked the end of an incredible and unlikely run as UFC welterweight champion for one of the sport’s hardest punchers. He was actually slated to fight Cerrone at UFC 205 at Madison Square Garden, but opted to take more time off to recover from the Woodley KO. Lawler has also left American Top Team and was recently seen sparring at Henri Hooft’s Combat Club, which is also in Florida.

Now the good news (well, good as it can possibly be) is that Cerrone’s injury is apparently not serious enough to put him on the shelf for the long-term. The same MMA Fighting report notes that the bout is likely to be moved to UFC 214: Cormier vs. Jones 2 on July 29th, so it wouldn’t even be postponed for a full month. UFC officials have not made any announcement on what’s next for both men, although if it does move to UFC 214, it’s another great addition to that card.

Pre Woodley fight I would have picked Robbie. Still think I do, but I can't dismiss the fact that Cerrone has that wicked right HK waiting to land against the south paw. I'll go w/ Robbie by decision.
