UFC 214 is shaping up to be the biggest card of the year, with a third championship fight added today.

UFC welterweight titleholder Tyron Woodley will put his belt on the line against Demian Maia at the July 29 event, which takes place at Honda Center in Anaheim. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FS1 and UFC Fight Pass, though the bout order hasn’t been finalized.

“The Chosen One” announced the fight on today’s edition of “UFC Tonight” on FS1.

Woodley (17-3-1 MMA, 7-2-1 UFC) vs. Maia (25-6 MMA, 19-6 UFC) joins the light heavyweight title headliner between Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones, as well as the vacant women’s featherweight title affair between Cristiane Justino and Tonya Evinger.
Well hot damn

Woodley could KO him but what makes you so sure Maia can't take a Woodley punch? Maia has only been stopped via strikes once in his entire career and that was 8 years ago. That combined with Woodley having a 35% (T)KO stoppage rate, I think it is fair to say that although Woodley could KO Maia, it isn't a forgone conclusion.

Woodley doesn't react too well when his space is taken away to lunge into his big power hands and Maia usually presses forward and leaves no space once he closed in behind jab range. Of course, Woodley can land one of his KO-shots, but he will not be as free with his hands as against strikers if he doesn't want to risk to get sucked into a grappling match with Maia.

Woodley tagged Thompson badly and Destroyed Lawler, Kim, and Koschek. I have no doubt when Woodley tags him he can put Maia down and if hes smart Woodley wont follow Maia. I just dont see Maia winning this fight. This will be his last chance at a title fight. Maia retires after this fight if he loses. The dude is almost forty and I guarantee he will never get another title fight.
