Thiago Alves Has A Bright Future

Seems like ever since losing to Fitch, Thiago has become this unstoppable machine, beating down Tony "I Have An Awesome Beard" DeSouza like he stole something, and finishing a guy who's really difficult to finish in Kuniyoshi Hironaka. His style is exciting and if I were the UFC, I would promote the living shit out of the guy. I see him becoming a future contender in the WW division, and maybe in a couple of years, he can be a champion.

So yeah, dude is all awesome and stuff.

Discuss.

I agree with you the only problem is that the UFC keeps him on the prelims.

I agree.

As long as this fool keeps off the sauce, he should make some noise.

That's the main problem, and I'm puzzled as to why he's still pulling pre-lim duty, but let's hope that changes soon. I mean, does Alves have to kill a fool to get on TV?

While i agree on this guy being really exciting, and i do actually have him 9th in my rankings on mmaplayground, i don't see him being a contender with the amount of talent the welterweight division. And champion?? i don't see that im afraid, aslong as GSP is in the division. I really hope your right though because i love to watch the guy and seeing him fight some of the contenders in the stacked division would be awesome!

I don't know maybe he does he called out Fitch but I think Fitch would win that fight again. Instead of calling out Fitch he should focus on becoming the new Fitch for now.

I agree he is real explosive and has good standup combined with a nice ground game. But I see Lytle taking him out at UFC 78.

I think Alves is a lot fo fun to watch but don't think he is the future of the WW divison.

He seems to have sloppy punches. He has killer kicks but it seems to me a good puncher would be able to pick him apart.

Also his ground game is good but not on the level of the top WW guys.

I would like to see Mike Swick vs Thiago Alves if he can beat Swick who throws a lot of quick jabs than I would be the first to admit I was wrong because I think if his punches are strong he will be great in the WW divison.

He's getting better with his punches. Sure, they're a tad sloppy, but he packs power in them shits. Baby steps, my friend, baby steps. I'm still giving him about 2 years before he's really at the level I know he can be at.

Swick's not that great of a striker, and throws wild as hell punches, too.

If ALves loses to Lytle, then it'll be a nice learning experience. I don't know, I think Alves will pull off the decision, but Lytle has a good shot at beating him. Dude is tough as hell, is a good striker, is impossible to finish, and has a good ground game. Lytle doesn't get the credit he deserves, but that's another thread.

I was thinking a fight between him and Burkman would be a good fight because they are the top two up and comers that the WW's have in my opinion.
