Rich Franklin- different camp

Ok guys I know some of you are sick of hearing about Rich Franklin and think Silva is far too superior for him. But I think if he trains somewhere other than Gurgel's gym then he'd have a better shot. I mean why would he train with Gurgel and his crew? They suck apparently. Yes Gurgel has a black belt in BJJ but his MMA BJJ isn't anything to brag about. That's why I suggest that Franklin go to another camp, like Couture's or something. That way he can actually formulate a gameplan that would work other than trying to knock out Silva in the 1st round and get tooled. He obviously has natural talent for the sport and just needs the right teachers.

Opinions anyone?

hmmmm

i suppose it couldnt make the situation any worse

i think what rich is gonna need......is to see some real talent enter the mw division....and have someone dethrown silva.....only because i really dont see rich getting another title shot for a while.....and if he does it shouldnt be the main event because no way in hell am i gonna pay to watch rich get owned again......

i still think rich is good......but it seems to me that anderson just has his number.....

The most solid advice I can give to anyone who fights BJ Penn is...do not motivate the guy. Lets face it, BJ although talented, is naturally lazy. Your job is to NOT convince him to step on that treadmill.

franklin needs to run the gauntlet of trainers.
greg jackson
randy couture
Ibarra...
you get the picture.

my point is he needs a little of what each coach is offering. maybe 2 weeks at each stop would get him up to par.
i agree he's got the natural talent, but he needs skill training. he's an obvious pat miletich product. all cardio and strength with a minimal skill set.

or, perhaps he should just drop weight. who knows. he's obviously not ready to give up, but really, where can he go?

Yeah I would like to see him go to different camps, see which one he improves most from. As far as dropping...he used to be LHW so i don't see him dropping anymore, but ya never know.

He will just keep fighting until someone other than Silva is champ and then you will likely see him in the mix.

The OP's suggestion isn't a bad one either. A new camp could help him add new tools to his game.

Well, Franklin has the talent to beat anyone in the UFC MW division.....except Anderson Silva, who will always beat him. This is a case of Bas Rutten vs Ken Shamrock, Sakuraba vs Silva, Nog vs Fedor, Rampage vs Liddell, and Gomi vs Azeredo.

Agreed. I think his only chance at regaining the title is for someone whom he matches up better with takes the title from Silva.

This is the same as Chuck. Until someone takes the belt from Rampage, Chuck doesn't have much of a shot at getting it back. It would actually be in his best interest to lose to Wandy so Wandy could beat Rampage(though it would be a long struggle for Chuck to recover from 3 losses in a row, but I guess one of them has to)

IMO, Chuck has a better shot of beating Wandy for the belt than beating Rampage for the belt.

I agree he should switch camp. His current camp might be really good - but he obv needs some totally new skills to deal with Silva. The current shape of his fighting matches badly with Silva, his strike then take down plan - isn't working. He should learn some Mua Thai to better defend himself. And he should really dive for the take down, Koscheck style, rather than try to strike then greco him down - the greco plan gives Silva too much opportunity to take him out - Silva in the past has been susceptible to the diving take down, he can't really sprawl v well.

So yep - new camp.

I'd recommend everyone go to Randy's.

I don't think Jorge has bad MMA BJJ, he just needs to realise that going for the same moved for 10 mins and blocking with your faqce isn't the best idea. That's a mental block, not a skill set block.

Rich needs to diversify for sure. Stagnate and you perish in this game these days. He has gone as far as he can go in OH imo.

Demian Maia may be the Fred Astaire of jiu-jitsu, but it’s too bad Silva is the Gene Kelly of kicking everyone’s ass.
