Houston Alexander in BIG trouble?
No matter how many ways I've looked at the fight between Houston Alexander and Thiago Silva, I just can't see how Houston Alexander can get past a refined and well schooled fighter like Thiago.
On all counts, from striking to grappling, in my judgement, Thiago wins. Unlike a sniper like Anderson Silva, whose entire arsenal of moves is carefully deliberated and coordinated, Houston seems merely a healthier and cleaner version of Tank Abbott, an eratic brawler - which you can't be when fighting a meticulous and intelligent Brazilian, much worse, an alumni of Chute Boxe Academy.
On top of that, Houston doesn't seem to have long range loops or far-reaching jabs in his arsenal - so that he reaches as though he were 5 ft 9 and not his actual height, 6 ft 0. I also doubt that he can out-clinch Silva, and certainly, if it goes to the ground, it's gameover even quicker for Houston. I'm basing this opinion on my observation of Houston's stiff and rigid manouvering on the ground on the Thursday night fight pre-show.
Anything can happen in MMA, but I doubt that Houston beating Thiago is one of those things - but who knows, we'll only know for sure in a few hours.
