I was there as well and the event was DEFIANTLY not sold out. I saw ALOT of open seats. I was surprised when I was there that so many seats were open, so I started to think will the commentators say the event was sold out, and they did.

What's wrong with USA fans cheering that in support of a USA fighter? Give me a break.

Have you ever been to a soccer match overseas? You want to see some rabid home country/city/village fan support? Ha. Last night was zip.

anyone can cheer for whomever they want. that being said, the UFC is filled with guys from all over the world. just last night there were 12 Americans (the UFC has Karo and Aurelio listed as Americans), an Englishman, two Brazillions, a Canadian, and two guys from Japan. a very mixed bag. the "USA" chants are a bit embaressing to me because it shows drunken narrow-mindedness.

It wasnt sold out, but near to sold out, I have pictures but can't show them yet.... there was no big silence in the last fight, not near to where I was at least... but one thing surprised me, when the fight ended, lots of people just left before they announce who was the winner, a little odd to me. Talking to another photographer that was beside me, he was surprised as well..

The difference is in a soccer, or any team sport, the crowd is there to support that team. So if it's an international game of course you are going to chant the countries name. Soccer is a bad example though seeing as though it has a bad history of violence, which is a whole other discussion.

In MMA you are there to support your favourite fighter (or just enjoy the fights in general). It's about two individuals competing, not two nations/teams. If anything you should be chanting the fighters name you are supporting, not the country. Seeing as the country really has nothing much to do with how good the fighter is or why you should like them. By chanting the countries name it's just giving the impression that you want that fighter to win because the other fighter is from a different country. Not because you appreciate the fighters fighting style and skills.

I'm sure the fighter would prefer their name to cheered also and not some widely distributed label such as the country he is from.

PS - My housemate did actually fall asleep in a couple of the fights lol.

Wanderlei "The Axe Murderer" Silva
Antonio Rodrigo "Minotauro" Nogueira
Ken "You got kicked. By a kick." Shamrock

I could care less = you care

I couldn't care less = you don't care

LOL...They figured Rashad scored more with the take downs and they wanted to beat the traffic on the way back home..
