People are too quick to jump the gun

Before last night's events, everyone was talking about Houston Alexander like he was the second coming of Fedor. Afterwards, a ton of people made posts about how he got exposed, etc.

People are really quick to get on and off the bandwagon. It's interesting to note that prior to Alexander getting tooled by Silva, I don't recall seeing many members questioning Alexander. Quite the contrary, I saw a lot of "Alexander is a fuking beast!" and "Alexander is going to KO Silva in 30s!" and so on.

The same thing that was happening to Alexander is happening with T. Silva. A lot of people are hyping Silva up because he destroyed the "destroyer." Come on people, have we not learned our lesson yet? Man, I think Silva is a solid prospect for the UFC, but we still need to see a few more fights before we can make an accurate assessment of him. Silva defeating Alexander did not really tell us much about himself, it just told us that Alexander has a weak ground game.

I'm just using this example because it was the most recent one, but there has been so many other cases of people jumping on/off the bandwagon. Another big example would be how people jumped off the Shogun bandwagon and on to the Forrest Griffin bandwagon. Before the fight, a huge proportion of the users on this forum were saying how Griffin won't be able to last 1 round with Shogun.

Everybody knew Houston was a power house, but there was no secrets to his game. He's a brawler in tight and we've discovered has pretty piss poor ground skill for the ufc. Silva fought the fight to beat him, and laid out the blue print for many more.

The worst bandwagon jumping by far this year.
-Couture was an american hero, now greedy.
-Shogun
-Frank never fights when he can't win; tools Baroni now bring on Silva.
-Nick Diaz and Gomi respectively.
-Gonzaga
-St. Pierre after losing.
-And of course Fedor's bandwagon is a max capacity, Dana calls him a farce etc.

I completely agree with the OP in every way.

It used to annoy me, and now i can only laugh

Demian Maia may be the Fred Astaire of jiu-jitsu, but it’s too bad Silva is the Gene Kelly of kicking everyone’s ass.

This is true. We can complain about it as much as we want...but bandwagon jumping is here to stay, and there is nothing we can do about it.

yeah, i'd like to think i'm a fairly conservative bandwagon jumper. i certainly didn't jump gsps bandwagon after the loss, crocops after two losses, or even randy after the whole crazy shenanigans with dana white. it's part of the sport which must be hard for the fighters since you're usually only as good as your last 2 fights.

To be fair, theres always a group of people, such as Damone and Bbjd7, who are aware of these fighters before their "break through" fight. I knew of Thiago Silva before this fight but I didn't know much about him until I started reading bbjd7 talking about him and how underrated he is, then when I saw the Silva - houston fight, I realized they were right the whole time. It's not band wagon jumping in my case as much as I realized others were right all along.

MMA fans are an especially fickle bunch as opposed to Football fans or Baseball fans who usually root for 1 team throughout their life.

I find the bandwagon jumpers to be funny, i remmeber a few months ago, if you said anything even remotely negative about Shogun, people were looking to burn you at the stake and were putting hits out on your family. Since his loss to Griffen his name barely comes up anymore.

I don't care much about wins or losses, I like fighters mainly for thier fights, thier styles and lastly thier personality. I enjoy rooting for the underdog anyway, it's alot more fun.

I like Houston because when you watch him, you know there is always going to be excitement. No since a lot of you are ripping on the people who went on the bandwagon... are you going to dislike Alexander before he lost? He's a great guy, watch his post press conference. I meen cmon, how many of you bought the PPV for the main event? I bought it to watch Houston fight. He always shows respect and he always tried to bring what the UFC needs, excitement in a fight to draw the crowd's attention. For God's sake, the whole crowd was cheering HOUSTON HOUSTON when Silva had a full mount on him. In only 2 fights and the guy has the whole crowd cheering for him. It's because he is an exciting fighter.

All of you ripping on him for his ground game, the guy got full mounted in the center of the octagon by a Black belt BJJ. What the **** do you expect? Him to be superman and get up. What haven't even seen his ground game, just a full mount by silva.
