^^Wow, that's really impressive coming from Gono. That was a pretty smooth transition he made there. He was saying in UFC interviews before the fight how he hates the ground game, and hates training it. I figured he would win the standup and get subbed on the mat late in the fight. It went quite the opposite.
So Gono and Davis both love to stand and trade, and both coming off impressive comeback wins with impressive armbars. Hmmm...both close to the same ladder rung (Davis obviously a bit higher)....hmmm....
seriously, as soon as serra isn't the champion he isn't in the top 5 anymore. i'd rather see fitch vs karo for the next shot, and davis vs gono to get in line afterwards.

WTF is this! NO! This is retarded! I hope this is just a dumb rumor.
It shouldn't be anything other than:
Fitch vs Karo
and
Gono vs Davis
It makes no sense at all the way they are doing it. Fitch vs Gono is gonna be horrible. Gono has no chance against Fitch, he's not ready for someone like Fitch, and how the hell is Gono a step up from Diego? I mean I like Gono and everything, but he just came over and he only has 1 win after getting his ass kicked the whole first round (from what I've heard anyway).
Davis and Gono are closer to the same ladder rung, and plus that would make a MUCH more exciting fight. Gono and Davis can stand and trade, and the ground game won't be so one-sided like it would be with Fitch vs Gono.
And Fitch and Karo are close to the same ladder rung also, and those 2 together would be much more exciting than Karo vs Davis or Gono.
Seriously this is the stupidest news thread I've read in a while. I hope this isn't true.
I agree completely. Why would they not put Fitch against Karo?
At least Davis is a finisher. Karo has become a Lay-n-Pray fighter, with Judo takedowns.
I like how after one performance, people are already calling Karo, one of the most exciting fighters in the UFC, a freakin' "Lay-n-Pray fighter." Hilarious.
The ufc probably wants two guys as legit challengers for the belt, since 170 has been on a big break. So after 1a gets their title fight, 1b gets theirs. No need to spread out guys over another set of title eliminators. Davis and Gono play the role of showcase for each guy. Gono/Davis sounds more awesome though.

Last time Karo finished a fight Jesus was still up walking around.

not that it really matters but I have seen Marcus Davis at the gym and he is definitely taller than 5'6". I'm 6'0" and was maybe an inch taller than him if not the same height.

Agreed. UFC probably already has Fitch in mind to fight the winner of GSP vs. Serra/Hughes. Given all the upsets, they probably want to minimize chances that ther preferred matchups don't pan out.
If Fitch fights at UFC 82 and has to fight another to determine #1 contender, then the WW champ from UFC 83 (GSP vs. Serra/Hughes) will be waiting a while for a title defence. We've been on hold for too long already.
I'm holding out for Hughes to beat Serra, GSP to beat Hughes. Then the follow up matches to be Karo vs Hughes for #1 contender and GSP vs. Fitch.
