Why No outrage over Serra being stuck with an Interm Champ

Why is there no anger over this? I mean Serra did nothing but do TUF that Dana asked him to do He got hurt and now they are giving out an interm title. I mean Sherk didn't defend his title for 9 months and then got suspended for Roids and not until now after only 1 defense in 16 months are they giving out an interm title. I mean Serra ain't even at a year yet and they are having one.

I mean If Serra injury is bad enough that he won't be back till July I understand this. But otherwise it is very unfair to Serra.

The guy isn't well liked and I understand because he annoys me but He earned the title (whether he earned the title shot is a different debate). And for Dana to give a title to the winner of GSP vs Hughes is a slap in his face.

If the Mods think there are to many posts on GSP vs Hughes I understand if you close it I just thought this is something being overlooked.

They know more about his condition than we do. Serra is likely out for a long time.

I agree and, as I have mentioned in a dif post, its cause Dana is friends with Sherk. I'm not extremly mad though, since I am really pumped for GSP vs Hughes 3.

I suspect Serra is out until late next year. Not only does he have to heal, but he has to rebuild his body after.

Being laid up for a long time will cause a lot of atrophy.

Demian Maia may be the Fred Astaire of jiu-jitsu, but it’s too bad Silva is the Gene Kelly of kicking everyone’s ass.

i don't think this is a title fight. and the reason i'm not outraged is because this saves me several months of having to wait for the next GSP fight.

Cattis Trophy that's what I really think it is. There are a crap load of GSP fans. And they want to see GSP fight. That along with the fact that a lot of people think Serra's win was a fluke and he is trash has lead to no one getting upset about this.

Also everyone wants to see Hughes vs GSP 3 but it is unfair to Serra to put the title on the line.

It doesn't bother me that much, mainly because I personally dislike Matt Serra's attitude, but you do off an interesting take on the situation.

The interim title fight is most likely to just validate this as the main event. Serra/Hughes was going to be the main event and it included a title, by keeping it as a title fight (whether interim or not) the match remains relevant to casual fans.

I always thought Silva/Liddell should have been bumped to the main event, but GSP and Hughes will be a good fight and with title ramifications it becomes an even more exciting match.

In summary: My guess is the fight was made an interim title fight in order to make it as relevant as the Hughes/Serra fight was. Everyone gets more excited for fights when a strap is involved, especially casuals.

It's not his title. Serra is still THE champ.

Be thankful this isn't boxing, Serra would have been straight up stripped.

True Serra would've been stripped right away but honestly this unless Serra is out until July which is possible but not the norm Then this interm stuff isn't right. I mean if Serra is back in May couldn't you just have this be the #1 contender fight and match them up winner up with Serra in May.

I think Fedor>All is right in that this is a ploy to keep the casual fans happy but It isn't fair to Serra who while I don't like him really did shock the mma world and I think a lot of people are still pissed that he made everyone look stupid and don't mind him getting an interm champ since they don't think he is the real champ.

No one is complaining because we get GSP vs. Hughes, how can you complain?
