WEC Brought a Great Show

Overall...I really enjoyed the fights tonight. We were treated to a bunch of different stuff. Striking, JJ, Judo, Greco Roman, stand up grappling, GnP, straight wrestling, it was all there.

I am one fan that does not have to have the fighters stand toe to toe and just pound the snot out of each other (not that there is anything wrong with that...:)).

If a person had never watched MMA fighting before this card was a great primer/clinic in the many different ways a fight can go. I mean come on...a LHW that is known for his striking slapping on a serious sub, Jens "I'll Pound You with MY Left Hand" Pulver saying "sure, I'll show you how good my ground game has gotten". A 135 pound cat with some heavy heavy punching power smacking the crap out of his opponent who just did not want to go down even when he was just absolutely dazed.

And just how the hell do you throw a freakin' knee like Faber did with the one leg you are standing on and do it with so much leverage and power? And what was he doing in there....freaking INVENTING new and interesting subs? Holy crap...he was insane. Not to mention just how calm and methodical he was in round 1 working and figuring his way out of that body triangle while avoiding the choke. It was like a chess match with hand grenades. :praise01:

Personally, I loved this card. It was not what (in general at least) we blood lovin' Yanks seem to always scream for...but man it was, imo, a great show of what MMA is all about.

My absolute favorite part was watching Jens Pulver shutup Mr. "So Cal" in about a minute. Nothing like totally embarrassing someone who loves to run his mouth.

Awesome show. I'm pretty sure after Jens won the fight, he said "f*ck you Cub." I was laughing, even if that's not what he said. It sure as hell looked like it. Faber was unbelievable. I was actually going against him, but I can't help but take my hat off to him. I'm a big fan of the underdog. I was also hoping Gandulla would beat Marshall, but that was also a long-shot. Did anyone notice how huge Gandulla looked compared to Marshall? Not only was he much more muscular, he was an inch taller, 6-inch reach advantage, and he was five pounds LESS than Marshall. I'm wondering how much he had to cut for that fight. I was guessing he'd get TKO'd in the third from gassing out. Sonnen put on a great performance as well, but I was not surprised to see Filho wait him out and pull off the win. He never panicked, even though he looked like he was in trouble. Props to Filho.

That is the very first thing I noticed when Gandulla stepped into the ring...how big he appeared to be. Odd thing is...both of these guys are WAY smaller than the LHW in the UFC. Most of the UFC dudes are at least 6'2" and nearly always right at 205 or a tad over, so really, Marshall and Gandulla both are sort of undersized for their division.

Marshall's submission win was certainly impressive, not to mention unexpected, which is good because it shows him growing as a fighter. However, I still wonder how he would fair against ANY of the top 5 Light Heavys in the UFC. I am thinking not too well.

Yep, it was a really good show, and the WEC may be my favorite promotion of the year. All of their televised shows have been really good.

I love the WEC, because they give me swank 135 & 145 classes. I love them for that. Oh, it's on free TV, too. That is another thing to love.

can yu tell me who faber was fighting wen he thru that knee u were talkin about??

Exactly. I mean...Faber had him in a Muay thai clinch but his (Fabers) right leg was pulled up by an underhook from Curan. He just leveraged w/the hands locked behind the Curan's neck and brought the left knee up with some nice power. Just what you can get caught with since it is probably the last thing you are looking for in that position.
