He's slowly, and very quietly, working his way up the WW ladder. He's on a 10 fight win streak, 5 of those coming in UFC bouts. He's shown he has tons of heart, coming back from the head kick he took from Paul Taylor only to armbar him in the same round.
He has a 1st Round Submission win over Forrest Petz (who took the more established Josh Burkman to a Split Decision), a 2nd Round Submission win over Pete Spratt, and a professional boxing record of 17-1-2.
He's trained with MFS, Mark Dellagrotte, and rolls with Jorge Gurgel, Rich Franklin, and Dustin Hazelett.
He's shown his submission game and he has great stand-up. I think he needs some more looks from dude's...he's quietly becoming a Top 10 WW.
Yes, this guy is awesome, I actually used him in one of my blog entries.
His arm bar over Taylor was one of my, if not the, best submissions of the year.
Agreed, I think his armbar is right behind Dong Sik Yoon's armbar on Manhoef for Submission of the Year. He took that head kick, stuck in there and pulled out the win. Dude has heart for sure.
He's come a long way since TUF. I think he should be getting a lot more recognition. He should headline a Fight Night and if he wins he should fight a top contender. He's not that young so hope he gets up there quick. I guess he's not that old but I think he's 34 or so...
Certainly is a tough kid. It would be a brawl of a fight against Karo (as most are). However, the kids got great hands, he's fast and nimble. And he does not have a problem mixing it up. He can also work on the ground.
I am a big fan of Karo, but I believe that Davis could beat him. Catches him with a big shot that drops him, then pounds him out for a ref stoppage TKO. However, if it goes to the ground the advantage must slide back over to Parysian. His last fight was no real indicator of his skill as a pro.
Davis is one of those "blue collar" hard working fighters. Just pounds his way up the rankings through hard work and taking on tough fights. All of a sudden you look up and it's like "hey...where'd he come from??". Keep your peepers on this one.
Marcus Davis is pretty damn solid right now, turning himself around and becoming a complete, well-rounded monster. The loss to Melvin was the best thing that happened to him, because it told him to get his ass in the gym, and learn something else besides boxing.
You have to love a guy who is as determined as Davis is. He's not exactly a young, spunky fighter, yet he fights like one. He has surrounded himself with good people, and will be my pick to really shock the world in 08.
Marcus Davis had a great year, I'm not a big fan of his personality, but I was impressed by his performances. I don't think he'll ever be a belt-holder, but I do think he'll give lots of guys trouble in the top 10.
Davis has completely grown on me after his last three or four performances in the UFC. Not only was his fight with Paul Taylor one of the most fun, competitive first round fights I've ever seen, but it still looked great compared to the really awesome Rampage/Henderson fight. He showed awesome recovery, looked really solid standing up, and stole the fight on the ground.
I hope his next fight is against someone as game as Taylor. I wouldn't complain if he fought Diego.
The guy has fun fights and honestly there is much more I ask of fighters. He brings it and is a lot of fun to watch. I think with some of the new talent in the WW divison he might get passed over but he is real fun to watch and I would love to see Swick vs Davis.
Marcus Davis is a really exciting fighter, and he can be thrown in there with just about anyone and have an exciting fight. I want to see more of this guy, and I am looking forward to his next fight.
