reduced time to train

One thing that everyone is forgetting is that Bj got the call to fight Hughes pretty close to the fight. GSP backed out about 2 months before the fight leaving Bj with a reduced time to train hard. I thought bj looked a bit smaller than he did for his first encounter with Hughes, and Hughes looked like he was on steroids for this fight.

I'm not sure if you can bring your cardio to Matt's level in the time the UFC gave Bj to train for this fight but Bj is younger and if you give the proper time for a guy like Bj to fixate on his championship fight, will bring Hughes to school once again. 1 all folks!

BJ has been in the sport long enough and should be in shape enough to go at least 3 rounds. It's not like he was gone from the sport for the last 3 years and wasn't training. It's like saying a football player who doesn't normally start and the starter gets hurt but it's OK for the reserve to only be able to play 2 of the 4 quarters because he didn't have enough time to train for 4 quarters.

Gassing out in this sport in the first 3 rounds isn't an excuse, its poor training. IMHO.

springing this last minute fight on Bj

I agree that there was no excuse but you do train a bit differently for certain opponents. Not knowing who your fighting until the last 6 weeks doesn't help Bjs training efforts. I'm sure Hughes trained cardio like crazy expecting to fight GSP, an opponent that is just as fit as Hughes so when GSP backed out he was already at least 6 months ahead of BJ in the cardio department. Hughes certainly didn't get any better with his striking or anything because his skills looked the same as they did before... OK at best. To throw somebody at Hughes with minimal time to train is the best tactic I've seen the UFC use to keep him the champ and to preserve all the future Hall of Fame plans and all that other crap they probably already have signed with him.

I'm sure even Hughes liked the idea about springing this last minute fight on Bj knowing he probably couldn't get into the shape he needed FOR A TITLE SHOT.

BJ was already training to fight in October before he got the call. We already established this before the fight so all the Penn fans wouldnt use excuses. The Penn fans on here at the time were arrogant enough to say he didnt need this as an excuse because they were so confident BJ would win anyway. They were wrong. And I thought wudluv2fightu only had a 3 day ban is he gone for good? Please say it isnt so.

What ever asskicker.

What ever asskicker. He was training but not to go 5 rounds with Hughes. When I pay to see a fight at the championship level I want to see GREATNESS, not just guys in great shape. To tie up Hughes with his own arms shows me this greatness that I don't see in Hughes, just great cardio.
